Listen, I'm not happy with how John Kerry has presented his position but
there are two things we need to keep in mind. First, this is not about John Kerry. It never was. John Kerry is just another person I don't know. No, this is about our right to self-rule.

Secondly, I hope you realize that because this fight is not about John Kerry, he cannot lead this charge. All bullshit aside, he's doing the smart thing. If he leads this battle, he could lose. If we lead this battle, we could lose but he will still have a career. Get it?

1. I hav it, it is about time we Dem.stop hitting Kerry and hit Bush
Republicans stick togeather, Democrats fight, isn't that part of the reason, Bush beat Kerry... I think so.. have read some planning to leave the democrat party ..Now can you hear a republican saying they will leave the republican party..George Bush can take half of their S.S and they will come away saying, Well Well well, George had to do it....they won't take their marbles and go on, the only thing they will go to is electing another republicans, while we democrats sit around blaming Kerry or some other democrat.

4. Kerry was involved?
Really?
I never knew this. Never thought this.

This is about democracy. Not about Kerry. Or Shrub, for that matter.

5. he doesn't need to lead.
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 12:24 AM by whalerider55
he just needs to be in the friggin' room, and stand up when everyone else does.

you may have a lotta reasons why you don't think he should do that but, here's mine as to why he should:

he's my senator. i have voted for him every time he has run for senate. and as a constituent, i think he has a responsibility to preserve and protect the constitution when it is under siege.

this is an enfranchisement issue. no voting, no democracy.
this isn't about what kind of strategy will or won't work.
this is the dividing line between a future where votes won't count, and a future where they might.

he's my senator. i want his ass there to make a statement.
i don't frankly care anymore whether he runs in '08.
for at least the next two years, we will have the fewest democratic senators in the senate since the depression.

any argument that this would "hurt his leadership abilities and his career as an advocate" just don't hold water for me. that's like buffing the captains shoes so you can rise from busboy to waiter on the titanic.

have some frickin' dignity, and do the right thing. stand up for enfranchisement/

7. Oh, while we fight for our vote, let's for sure protect the millionaire's
career!

Sorry, not a selling point.

Tell my neighbor, who walked for Kerry while looking for a job.

Geezus. I can take reality. Just don't try that cr@p on real working people because it doesn't work.

9. Maybe we're all upset and tired. But our vote is the star, not
the career of a person more priviliged than 9.9 of 10 of our children.

That's his job.

10. It get's resolved tomorrow (or shortly thereafter)

and opinions don't really figure into it.

If he is actually quietly encouraging this, he's a fine if somewhat skittish Senator.

If he joins the fray later, he's late (but, "better late",etc.).

If he sit's it out, he's irrelevent.

But if he provides cover for no Senator standing up on the theory that JK "asked me not to", then he is a SERIOUS dick.
