4. any hope
of anything else coming out of this? Since the dems are in the minority and there will be a vote after the two hour debate does this mean that * will still end up as chief chimp?

6. Bush will once again take the White House
as the Userper in Chief. Twice selected through fraud - at least the man has some consistency.

7. Chimp is going to look very bad today
to say the least .I just read this has not happened since 1877, you know it just could not have happened to a better person.

We will just have to see how it plays out ,i don't think anyone can really predict how this will go from here. I was pretty sure senators would come forward, even if it was just a formality

3. Somewhere there is a great post that runs down the procedure.
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 11:51 AM by Pacifist Patriot
In a nutshell, Cheney as president of the senate will call for objections. Jones will rise and be able to acknowledge in the affirmative that she has a senator's signature to accompany her objection. At that point the two chambers will adjourn to their own houses for debate. Two hour limit with five minute limit per member, so it could be less than two hours depending upon how many rise to speak. After the debate, the two houses rejoin to vote on acceptance of declination of the challenge.

HOWEVER...given other things that are going on right now, lack of a quorum could delay the vote. We won't know until the vote is taken.

5. Split session
House and Senate MUST go to their own separate chambers to discuss the merits of the challenge for at least two hours. Then they vote up or down on whether to accept the electors. If they vote NO then the state's electors don't count...If its Ohio then there won't be a majority for Bush so everything's up in the air. Ultimately, the House of Representatives can choose between the top 3 contenders.

Of course, both chambers will vote to accept Ohio. But the issue will gain prominence and we can look forward to a full investigation...

9. The Ohio electors will be accepted after a two hour debate
in both houses.

members are allowed to talk up to 5 minutes during that 2 hours. I assume they will take turns among Democrats and Repukes. I also assume members can yield time over to the principal challengers.

this is simply procedural. anyone who believes the outcome of the election will be impacted is kidding themselves.

8. I broke this all down just for DU :)
Here's the whole enchilada that I wrote hoping to answer all questions about the Procedure:

And my main thesis is there is hope, and a key to this is the 2000 senate 'stand down'
