Successful appeal to a Republican (at the grass roots level)
A few moments ago I spoke with an individual I have been "lobbying" for two months now. He is not willing to take the step into electronic tinkering, but we have been in conversation about voter suppression in terms of registration difficulties, long lines, differing systems, rule changes, etc.

I have deliberately not pointed out that these issues were worse in democratic areas, but he of course knew this and used that as a "conspiracy theory" way out of the argument.

I finally got to him when it sunk in what I've been trying to tell him. I threw up my hands and said, "Yes, this is primarily happening in heavily Democratic precincts. But 'heavily' does not mean exclusively Democrat. This means there are Republicans who are suffering through the same voting irregularities as Democrats. Ruplicans who gave up voting for Bush because the line was too long. Republicans who voted on crappy machinery, etc."

Light Bulb Moment!

He's apparently been thinking about it because I just got off the phone with him. He told me he called his senators to ask them to challenge the vote today. *jaw hitting floor*

*sigh* One person at a time and you get a snowball effect. Yippee!

1. It's Amazing How Selfish These People Are Until It Becomes Personal
I think republicans are categorically incapable of seeing the larger picture.

2. Republicans are just unfrozen caveman lawyers
Our world frightens and confuses them.

Jingle: "He used to be a caveman,
but now he's a Republican.
Unfrozen Caveman Republican!"
