Dear Editor:

I am just writing to say how proud I am of our Senator, Barbara Boxer, for standing up for democracy today by joining the representatives who are contesting the slate of electoral votes from Ohio.

Unlike most people in this country, I have not taken my eyes off Ohio since November 2, and I am absolutely appalled at what I have seen going on there. There are many "smoking guns" pointing to serious election irregularities and, after what happened in Florida in 2000, I don't think we have the luxury of ignoring these warning signals that our democracy is under attack.

If it were not for the courage of those who stand up to contest the electorate today, I might never bother to vote again. What would be the point when the only election reform we have gotten since the debacle in Florida is the tragic Help America Vote Act? What is going on with all this unverifiable voting technology that makes recounts impossible?

Our democracy rests on a verifiable vote count, and I can't thank Senator Boxer enough for being a true representative of the people.
