From the Daytona Beach News-Journal:
Recount officials wary of fraud
Last update: November 05, 2004
DELAND -- Post-election 2004 in Volusia County churned into its second day Thursday, with a 228,000-vote recount and concerns about possible voter fraud.
Seven Volusia County voters apparently tried to cast ballots twice in the general election, said county spokesman Dave Byron.
None of the cases had been confirmed Thursday, he said, but if they are they will be submitted to the State Attorney's Office.
"The key threshold (for submitting them) would be whether it was an accident or whether it was an attempt to commit voter fraud," Byron said. He said similar concerns in the past had never led to prosecution.
County Judge Steve deLaroche, chairman of the county's election canvassing board, said elections officials want to "stamp out" any rumors challenging the integrity of the vote and would investigate thoroughly. "We're tolerating zero voter fraud," he said.
