It's odd that most of the whining here
is from people who don't usually post in this forum. We achieved a lot today!

With that, I'm off to pick up the kids...

what did we achieve today?
I realize that I don't post here 50x a day, but I lurk all day. What was achieved? I'm not negative, but apparently I'm missing the big picture. What happens now?

4. The historic record shows the objection. Voting problems are now an issue.
And now they can call for a proper study and investigation that leads to full transparency in the system.

5. Perhaps
Yes, it is on the historic record, Im glad it was done.

However, voting problems have been a MAJOR issue for 4 years and look where we are now. It only got worse, but harder to prove. Regardless of this action, nothing can nor will it be done about these problems because the Republicans are in control of all of our government.

Do you magically think that after Bush is out in 08', that the problems stop there? No, because this is larger than Bush, its a systemic problem that can be traced back to the GOP and the Right-Wing.

I cant feel good about this no matter how hard I try, because I know in reality, nothing will be done. The MSM is already painting this as a victory for Bush in that the Democrats couldnt even agree to overturn the count.

Get ready, we are in for a wild ride.

15. There are Dems in Utah?
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 05:04 PM by tasteblind
Strange. I keep trying to post this as a reply to the numberless post, but it's coming up as a reply to original message.

You must be in the extreme minority.

As for next steps, that's the big question. Sadly, this Party doesn't seem to be getting the message that Republicans are out to eradicate them.

Hopefully we keep on badgering them to do the right thing and elect more progressive Dems to office.

2. Not So Fast
Regardless, I just started posting today and have been a lurker on this board and very active on many others over the past 2 years or so.

By chalking this complaining up to "newbies" just shows a negligence on the part of some to respect the view of the minority (or majority) that may not be as vocal but speak up on occassion.

6. You have that right
People with a lot to say and nothing to do value their opinions as superior by reason of seniority. Sounds a lot like the Senate. No matter nothing gets done there.

8. Read the post again
People that do not normally post in this forum.

Hmmmm...there was no mention of post count. Post count is meaningless. Distractors and demoralizers come in all shapes and sizes, and they are definitely polluting the skies this afternoon.

Today was a Great Day. We made history today. I am watching the Congressional Black Caucus. These amazing people made history today. I stand in awe of them and of all of you that helped make this happen.

Take all of your negativity and put it wherever you'd like. You are never going to rain out this parade.

I was NOT referring to post count, but to those who are so negative (by saying we achieved nothing) who don't normally post in this forum. Maybe they just didn't understand what most of us were working for---election reform.

reading IS fundamental.

I have over 30,000 posts and I don't post in this forum reguarly.

It has nothing to do with post count.

that sounds suspiciously like "you're either with us or against us".

Some of us may be new to this forum, but
#1 we weren't born yesterday
#2 we care as much about democracy as the old timers
#3 we have done our "posting time" elsewhere, and would have been here sooner if we'd have known about DU earlier

Lastly,
How is it raining on your parade?
Maybe you are raining on ours.

11. Achieved same old same old
Look,

We achieved the same thing we did in the election--defeat. Politics isn't a ballgame. (you know it doesn't matter if you win or lose it's how you play the game--good for sports bad for politics.) People die when we lose. I'm an airline pilot and people died on 9-11 because shrub cheated and then was incompetent--And then Al Gore forgot he was running for "most powerful person in the world" and thought he was in a polo match, or golf or whatever bluebloods do.

Our leaders have put "playing the game nice" over winning. Because winning is messy. Winning is contentious. Winning means fighting and getting bloodied and taking risks. Yes how you play the game means a lot, but if you never win, you shouldn't be playing.

Taking the high road doesn't meaning turning your back so the repukes can stick a knife in it.

I believe that is why a large portion of the electorate doesn't trust Democrats. If we are too nice and sissified to defeat the repukes, how are we going to do against "real" bad guys like Saddam, or North Korea or terrorism?

16. Huh?
This is the only forum I post on...
I credit DU with saving my life after Nov 3. Found DU through Michael Moore's site when I was looking for answers and connection with others who were going through what I was. And I found that and more, a direction, a cause, a way to fight back. So just because I'm unhappy today I'm a whiner? Just because I think Barbara Boxer was stabbed in the back by the other Dem Senators I don't belong in this forum? I'm sorry for pointing out the truth...we are no closer now to real investigation into the vote here in Ohio than we were yesterday...there will be work on reform...but the Repukes will heavy hand their way into watering it down just like they did to the first HAVA. Sorry if you don't like my attitude...who made you hall monitor?

In other words... much of the whining may be coming from people who didn't understand what many in this forum have been working for.

I did not call any names. :) This has been a roller coaster ride for all of us here.

21. Election reform, yes
But I thought we were about not just "making sure that each person can vote, and each person's vote counts", but also that "all the votes are counted"...this time, not just in the future...I thought we wanted all the votes in Ohio in 2004 counted and fraud exposed. That's what I wanted, and I'm sorry, but I think today just put a period to that.
