If the Dems are serious about this, they won't need headlines |
|
Here is something people need to understand. 99.9 percent of the important stuff that happens in Washington is unbelievably boring. And 99.9 percent of the interesting is unbelievably trivial. The most interesting part of C-SPAN is the 15-minute speeches where the craziest members of the House talk to an empty chamber about whatever interests them.
If the Dems pull off electoral reform, no one will notice it, because the next election will be boring. And the legislation needed to fix it is boring. The important part is Dems have taken up the issue in pretty dramatic fashion and have shown that they have weapons to get action on it. Hopefully, they will use these new balls to get the needed reform out of committee.
It's not up to the headline writers to get that done. It's up to us to keep reminding them why they are there.

1. I would trade in ANWR for REAL ELECTORAL REFORM!!!! |
|
Once Democrats get back in, we could undo ANWR then.

2. How about giving in on some judges? |
|
I'm not talking about the Roy Moore types, but on the rank and file strict constructionalist assholes. Specter runs Judiciary so there should be a little sanity.
But I think there are other ways to get it through without vote trading. Robert Byrd knows the rules better than anyone. He could figure it out.
