The stark ugly head of American racism is the true shame
we are witnessing today.

Has it ever been so glaringly obvious what is going on here?

Ugh.

4. Why don't they just reenact the polling tax and quit the pretense?
Or maybe go back to the old days when only white men were allowed to vote.

5. exactly
it's telling those disenfrancised voters, notably the African-American communities, that their vote doesn't matter.

10. Wear orange. That's what I am doing. Orange is the color of Solidarity.
And I bought pieces of orange cardboard to put in my car and home windows. Just squares of orange everywhere.

9. Absolutely. The sad thing is...
that no one really wants to confront the issue. If it is brought up, the person who brings up the topic is attacked. It will never be solved until it is brought out into the full light of day.

14. I think people of color have had to deal with this stuff forever.
We white people, for the most part, are just getting used to it.

when the Black Caucus was completely marooned, and Florida lost to disenfrachisement by a factor of 50-100x the margin of victory. Today's story is a little more ambiguous.

edit: Glitch beat me to it.

23. my uncle....
...was a prisoner of the Japanese and lost his leg on Corregidor so that black folk might vote as freely as members of his white family. He's not the only family member whose blood was spilled to protect the vote.

I'll be goddamned if I'll let this pass.

25. Sorry but I disagree....
...the tactics were racist,BUT the strategy was theft....And ALL democrats were as fully disenfranchised as our collegues of color.Understand that republicans do not oppose BLACKS,but rather DEMOCRATS.Yes black and intercity areas were hardest hit but only because they were the ripest targets...as to GOP morals it matters not one whit which color they steal from, only the outcome,IMHO...
