This is more than we could have hoped for. Public Political Theatre. The conclusion was a massive anti-climax.

Brilliant work, all. Brilliant! Now, let's see... what GOP crimes should we uncover today?

There are so many, it's hard to know where to begin.

Long live the United States of America.

10. Exactly. Now we prosecute those who committed the fraud.
The research we all did, just following the election, uncovered more evidence and testimony than we ever could have uncovered, had we waited.

We have the momentum. We will press on and we will win.

12. no, you don't.
You have it on record that 33 Dem congressmembers voted to throw out a statewide election, even though they admitted that there was no way that Kerry carried Ohio.

They're gonna get payback, folks. Our party is now slinging mud in a way even they've never stooped to--trying a congressional coup to pick the president. We have yet to pay the price for this.

20. "Slinging mud in a way even they've never stooped to?"
The wording of that is a bit odd. Seems to be it's about time that we started slinging mud (i.e. truth) at them. And this was NOT about a congressional coup to pick the president. It's about highlighting the problems we have with our elections.

Or sling, depending on your perspective. This is just beginning. And it's going to get much, much better.

The investigations continue and we now have all the liars and thieves on video denouncing attempts to just look at all the votes. When the fraud is exposed - and it will be - those video clips will get repeated play in every election in which each of those criminals is a candidate. They'll all go down in history for what they are - cowardly thieves. The world already sees them for what they are and so do millions of us here.

We also didn't say that Kerry won. They would have loved that! We brought up only voter issues which they really can't argue with. They had to say in their remarks things that the Dems didn't say, like "Kerry won" and that we are X Files followers, etc.

Isn't it enough that the WH said they would get to the bottom of the Plame business? Many people have talked about Plame, and an investigation was even started.

It is in the public record and the media reported it.

By today's measure, that is beyond victory...that is crushing your opponent into oblivion!

55. I was always an optimist. Until now. Truth no longer matters.
All the Dems had to do was vote YES.
Support not only Boxer, but their constituency.
Why did they vote NO?

What are they in fear of?
They are all rich.
Their votes come from Dems like us.
What did they have to lose?

We needed solidarity.
Instead we got lip service.

This was the biggest vote of their lives.
And they voted NO.

They sure know how to fire up their base, don't they?

This was not the FIRST time.
It is MUCH worse this time.

What's the point of another Michael Moore movie?
They were not shamed by F9/11.
Why would F9/11 Part II make a difference?

With all this evidence of fraud, nothing was done.
It sure doesn't give one any hope.

In fact, it makes me believe the worst is yet to come.

25. We brought attention to an underlying issue
and for all of Delay's pap (early during which I heard murmurs of- what was it, surprise? disgust?- coming from within the chamber), the issue remains: tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people across the country either did not get to vote or had their vote originally miscounted, it may have been intentional (and a true bipartisan investigation would prove this either way), and the system at its foundations may be fatally flawed.

There were republicans up there arguing that no election is ever perfect. That is a stunningly arrogant claim to make. A perfect election consists of an election in which every voter's intent is clear and is verifiably recorded. That's it- nothing more. To claim we cannot achieve this goal, when we can put men on the moon and spacecraft on Mars that last more than four times their anticipated mission lifespan, is to claim that we merely do not wish to try.

With today's action, the objecting Democrats pointed out in stark relief that there are problems, some of them serious, and that officials may have been involved. It certainly does look that way- I only wish they had presented more evidence from Conyers' report during their objections. It did seem to me that a few of the objecting parties were not completely prepared to deliver the scathing critique they so easily could have.

Nonetheless, the main issue is now in the public consciousness: election reform. Voter-verified paper records. Open source election code.

Those are the goals we now have in front of us. We know they cheated; we know absent a serious and complete investigation, we will never prove it. We might not ever get that investigation- but surely we can prevent such a theft from happening ever again.

This is the first time I've got involved with some sort of campaign that actually had a result, i called senators and got other people to call and it was a success....we stood up for ourselves.

Its like Michael Moore said, we Dems need to stop being battered wives of the GOP. We have to end the abuse. Yesterday was a first step.

We should work on Voter reform in all the swing states and at the federal level.

We should make sure that all Bush's capital is spent on a failed Social Security reform plan.

Fight! Fight! Fight!

For openers, all the so called "glitches", "problems", "irregularities", etc. FAVORED BUSH. Now, we all know that is impossible. If it were random goof ups, approx 50% give or take whatever, would have favored Kerry.

45. Since you've just popped out of the womb on DU
Save your uninformed attitude for your friends in other places. Those of us who have paid attention for the past two months have reams of evidence for this election theft, and the Conyers report (which you obviously have not looked at or you wouldn't make the statements you did above) is only one piece of the puzzle. A very big puzzle, with any small handful of the pieces in that puzzle proving (to me and 60 million other Americans at last count) that the election was stolen.

Read Freeman -- his research is available here. (And after reading Freeman, go buy a PowerBall ticket. Freeman's analysis proves that you are twice as likely to win PowerBall with a single ticket than that the votes in OH, FL and PA occurred in a "tamper-proof black box".)

Read TruthIsAll -- his in-depth analyses are here.

Follow the New Mexico "phantom votes" -- you can find the trail here

Read the Berkeley study or the U. of Illinois study or the CalTech study -- you can find links to them all here.

Visit the Election Incident Reporting System web-site -- it's not hard to find

Read Clint Curtis' affidavit -- you can find it here or at bradblog.com

Visit Case_Ohio,or nostolenelections or electionfraud2004 --we are drowning in evidence. (Actually, we're floating on top of it but the Repugs are beginning to take on water.)

In fact, read anything - anything - you can find here posted over the past two months which documents the voter suppression, voter disenfranchisement, election fraud and theft in depth and in detail.

My only frustration about yesterday was that we only began to touch on the mountain of evidence of the election theft in the hearings. But this morning, I am hopeful that this was intentional. Because some of the evidence we have accumulated will best be presented in courts of law, with real and permanent consequences.

"Better that an person remain silent and be thought a fool than to open his mouth and remove all doubt."

Welcome to DU -- now go read something.

Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 11:09 AM by nodictators
The "election" in Ohio was fradulent in many counties.

First, there is a 20-minute video by Linda Byrket of some of many Franklin County (which includes Columbus) precincts that were denied the proper number of voting machines and the resulting long lines of voters waiting for many hours in the rain to vote.

http://www.house.gov/judiciary_democrats/video%20the%20vote.mov

Is it an honest election where a precinct with 1600 registered voters gets only 3 machines for their voters? Would anyone say it is fair if some have to wait in line many hours, even more than 5 hours, to vote? Wouldn't a scheme to shortchange certain precincts be a vicious way of disenfranchising thousands of voters? Is that democracy?

Read Rev. Jesse Jackson's article about Ohio's version of democracy here:

http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19/2005/1066

Seven key reasons why the vote must be challenged at the electoral college

51. I watched every minute of it and
it looked to me like the Repugs were a bunch of crying little boys. Their twisted logic about not having fair and free elections was bizarre to say the least. If one decent Repug sound bite could have been gleamed from their arguments you could bet the Repug MSM would be showing it on every channel. But they looked so bad they couldn't scare one up.

Ohio's election was a fiasco of shoddy planning and rigged counts. You need to do some homework on that one.

I get the feeling you are scared to death to stand up against the Repugs.

"There are just more important things to worry about." Sounds like a Repug spin doctor. When the Repugs rig an election there is always something more important to worry about. Don't look too closely you might see the Repugs rigged it.

In Texas, no less. They're sickened that Congress - THEIR republican Congress - won't even look into election problems. It doesn't help that they feel publicly embarrassed about their Reps and Senators' refusals being on video forever for the world to see. The reactions I've heard most often from repubs since yesterday has been, "Oh, God, and we're going to show Iraq how to hold elections. Oh, God, what a joke."

Different strokes, I guess. You do have a unique perspective. Good luck with it. I've yet to meet anyone who shares that view.

37. You're absolutely right. They are not even close to being happy
We publicly rained on their parade and exposed them for the mean-spirited hypocrites that they truly are. Worse, yet, we got it all on video thanks to C-Span. Those clips were shown around the world and will continue to be shown as this admin. continues it's two-faced, falsely-pious rhetoric about fair elections in other countries.

The best part for me, though, is that yesterday helped make many more Americans aware of the 'irregularities' present in Ohio and the absolute refusal of the republicans to join with the Democrats to investigate this truly bipartisan issue. Talk about painting themselves into a corner. As the fraud investigations and lawsuits continue, that corner is going to get hotter and more toxic.

Cool.
