Please remember to talk to your children about today
I remember well when I was eleven years old and the first news of the Watergate break-in came on the radio. My father said to me something like, 'Pay attention. This is going to be a big deal. People are going to be talking about this for your whole life." Because of his saying that, I paid extra close attention, and I remembered.

While today's events aren't by any means all we hoped and worked for, they are nonetheless historic. They are important for our children to remember.

If you've been working hard, as I have, on turning this upside-down election right-side up, your children's main experience of it may be not having enough time with you. Let them hear some of the amazing speeches made by the members of the Congressional Black Caucus and others today. If you can find it, let them see Barbara Boxer--in her press conference with Stephanie Tubbs Jones before the challenge--say that she made a mistake by not challenging in 2000. Let them see what a big thing you have been part of. I explained today's events to my first-grader today in a way she was able to understand. It wasn't that difficult. The conversation began when I handed her a pair of orange socks today and told her it was a good day to wear them. She asked why, and we talked. She probably knew more about the Congressional challenge this morning than 95% of the U.S. population.

So, talk to them. And listen, too.

1. When I'm explaining to them someday why the planet is polluted and why
we are living in Canada or Europe, I'll tell them about this day....

I also have the good fortune of currently living in Kentfield/Greenbrae California in Marin County - Home of Barbara Boxer. Boxer lives several blocks away and she shops (in her Prius!) at the same grocery store and my 4 year old knows her and says "there's MY Senator"....I will teach them about how brave Sen. Boxer is and that she is a great American Patriot....

I'll tell them that January 6th, 2005 was the day the Democratic Party and Democracy died in America.

2. Cheer up, Pach
It's heart stopped 4 years ago and today, we got it beating again.

Worse comes to worse, vote Green.

4. I went to our county board of elections this afternoon & switched to Green
I did it to make a formal protest to the Democratic Party...I'm sending a copy of it and receipts of my "contributions" to them (including their Thank you notes for my sizeable donations) and telling them to take me off their call list and that I'll never contribute another penny....

I'll support Boxer & Lynn Woolsey, but I'm going to work hard to find a replacement for Feinsteins' Senate seat in 2006....

I'll educate my kids alright...here is my statement & post to that:

3. Excellent, totally on-target post. The GOPs indoctrinate - we educate. :)
