EDITORIAL
The Ohio objection

CREDIT Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., for standing up for the principle that "every vote counts." She had to know her willingness to challenge Ohio's electoral votes would be mocked and mischaracterized by Republicans -- and it was.

It hardly mattered how many times she and a few other determined Democrats emphasized that they were not contesting the outcome of the 2004 presidential election. What they wanted to highlight -- through the debate they forced Thursday -- were myriad flaws in the process of the Ohio vote.

4. Actually, I feel great
Better than I have in a long time. Yesterday was wonderful. We shut down the phone lines at the Capitol! That's hot. Power to us, let's keep going. WE have political capital, and I think it's time we focus on some issues and take it out for a spin to see what it can do!

:) Happy Friday!

:loveya: for Boxer, Conyers, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and the rest. They deserve them and a whole lot of thanks.

6. thats GREAT Thanks Patsy
I think we made a terrific break through.
What i have trouble with is the mixed message
I got from the Dem's. They spoke up thats was GREAT yet they did not contest that Ohio vote

The system is broke, but it worked , Ohio was a mess yet we don't disagree bush won Ohio..

Will pitt said it best on his blog:
(Crazy, when you think about it. Pelosi and the others accept the results but discuss a busted system. In other words, the election system in America is broken...but it also worked.)

the "yea" people and all the activists are the hero's
The peoples voice was heard... That part is excellent :)

8. Mixed Messages
I don't know why they didn't vote according to what they said, but I'm not too concerned about it. There was no way that Ohio was going to be thrown out. Everyone knows that the system is broken. The documentation was entered into the Congressional Record and there are still lawsuits pending. Even if everyone voted "Yea" that spoke, it still wouldn't have turned. Plus we went from 8 Dem Reps in the morning to 33 at the time of the vote. Some did indeed vote their conscience.

Legally, there only needed to be one Senator, and that was the brave and beautiful Barbara Boxer. The others who spoke in support had their statements recorded into the record and didn't need to take a bullet. Let them go on to do the work we need them to do without that stigma hanging over their heads. As Michael Corleone learned from his father: "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer."

It was a good thing that the Dems stood and spoke. It was better that the Repugs stood and said they didn't give a hoot about voting issues. C-SPAN had some very disappointed Republicans call in and express their displeasure at the actions of their elected officials. That was worth the price of admission.

There will be Election Reform pressure coming from us and other Dem leaders. It will be a beautiful thing to see them try to ask for a re-vote in Washington State (are they still trying for that?) and dismiss the problems (and still uncounted ballots) in Ohio. Get out the popcorn, the movie is starting.
:)

9. The points you make are very true
It was a huge step forward. The politicians that spoke up yet voted the other way I feel were playing it safe.

Playing it safe has its benefit's and also has
its disadvantages, I never felt that
they could change the outcome i just felt that there was enough
evidence to scream form the mountain top that we cant trust this
vote and risk being called sore losers.

The only way that could have realistically happened I think is if Kerry lead the way
out in the front lines .

Theres allot to yesterday that was amazingly beautiful .

I'm just having some concerns about the leadership and the
strategy of the Democratic party.

Its got to grow from the ground up
thats what i learned yesterday , that part was a sweet victory
we the people had our voice heard . :)

3. It's really sad more papers didn't have this view
Some major papers didn't even carry the story! Wake up, America!

5. Kinda hard to believe that so many papers
barely covered the story, or didnt cover it, or made it sound like a frivolous enterprise. I thought for sure there would be more coverage similar to SFGate's editorial. But even SFGate didnt really have much on the story other than the editorial, as good as it is. Where are the headline articles.

7. YOUR so correct
My friend said this today. (so many dont see the reality of the MSM)

"Actually it was in our paper this morning and I saw it on CNN so I think they are covering it (MSM) its not headlines, but the Tsunami is and should be."

This should be headlines also....
democracy is the foundation of the country ..

11. Anchorage Daily News
ran a NYT article on the second page of the front section regarding yesterday's protest. I couldn't help but think that for the uninformed, this news of contested Ohio electors must have come as a complete shock from way out in "left field," thanks to the corporate media black-out, but maybe people will start wondering about this now and begin checking the facts. We, through Barbara Boxer, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, et al., made enough noise yesterday that the issue HAD to be reported. This is good news for us and could be the start of educating mainstream America as to what's going on. I refuse to be pessimistic about yesterday. It was a good thing.
