Houston, we've got a problem.
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:11 PM by Bill Bored
Not to toot anyone's horn, esp. my own, but I think we've got a problem here people.

A thread telling us to answer some idiotic online poll from an NBC affiliate in San Diego (which I did vote in, thank you very much), gets 120 responses, while the one I wrote asking you all to seize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Boxer, Conyers and Tubbs Jones have given us, and write to ALL your reps, Republican and Democrat, at the federal and state level TOMORROW, to demand that they actually FIX THIS F***ING PROBLEM gets 10 responses! And some of those are my own kicks!

If this is indicative of the actual effort we're going to put in to get verified voting, than we are almost as bad as the Repukes and we're doomed to fail.

In case you're interested now, the thread is:

3. Well, if it makes you feel better, just because a thread is not
getting replies does not mean it is not getting attention. I've posted plenty that sank like rocks but that still managed to get some hits to my site so that some sort of action was taken. :)

7. Bill you've got a good point. Letters are more important than
online polls. Yet, we've all given a lot, lot, lot lately and letters take more effort than online polls (also never underestimate the impact of getting immediate positive feedback from taking the poll). You might get better results if you post an example letter (or two) and a link to a site that will eFAX the letters.

Not an excuse. Just a thought.

12. In the other thread,
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:47 PM by Bill Bored
I listed 4 key points to include in the letters. I think everyone should try to say it in their own words though. I also included a link to VerfiedVoting.org that summarized the previous House and Senate verified voting bills. They say:

"The following table provides information on the various voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) bills that were submitted to the U.S. Congress during the 108th session. Unfortunately, none of those bills was passed before that session ended, and those bills are all now defunct."

This is an outrage, and it's the evidence we need to tell the Repukes that they brought this on themselves! Maybe the challenge would have gone ahead even if we had verified voting, because of the other problems in Ohio, but we have been given an opportunity now to really push for verified voting! And to some extent timing is everything. A flood of mail immediately following the electoral challenge will go a long way toward getting this problem fixed and will vindicate those who bravely mounted the challenge.

8. what difference does it make?
even if every DUer called wrote etc that still less then 100k.....and no matter how we view it, the fact is that a monster has been loosened and unless leadership of some kind can take charge and survive the mediawhores, not to mention the monster, nothing's going to happen.....Boxer and Conyer etc deserve support, and will get it (there are 60 million kerry voters in USA after all) but they would have been smarter to sellout cuz fighting for anything is such a hassle, and to be honest, this fukking society of ours deserves bushinc, hell they deserve a hitler....they deserve armageddon!
sorry about the negativity- your energy may well be all that's left in the world!

9. I responded to your post, Bill
and I'm going to do it. Ted, Lisa and Don are always talking about how they speak for Alaskans -- I want to see them put their energy and votes where their mouths are. (Although my hunch is that they speak for REPUBLICAN Alaskans.) Grr.

10. Fear not, I saw it and just because I didn't respond doesn't mean I didn't
take it to heart. I understand your frustration, though. I've made several postings to try to get people to get in touch w/ me regarding the formation of some kind of grassroots campaign to demand an Ohio investigation and election reform. The reponse has been less than overwhelming but I have gotten a few replies and will try to build on that. I'm also thinking that maybe I should go to the other organizations out there and offer my time to them.

And, I do plan on writing letters. I just need a few days to calm down and get some perspective - I would like to have it be thoughtful and not filled with the expletives that I was screaming at the tv yesterday.

I WILL bring up the importance of verified and audited voting and I will smear their faces in it a bit.

NGO!

We want to have people who are on point for the action categories who can then turn to email lists and lists of websites to get people going.

Organization is the key. We have to get organized. Join in the fun over at our thread and help Bill Bored get his message out as well!

11. Don't get mad, get LOUD!!!
We need to flood the Judiciary Repuglicans with e-mails, letters, and phone calls in order to get them to understand how important this is. They MUST hold FULL investigations with subpeona powers.

<http://judiciary.house.gov/contact.aspx>

The idiots have megaphones, but we have numbers!

The Senate Democrats were cowed, this time by their constituents, into doing what they should have done in 2000. We can't stop now. The ight has only begun!

15. Yep, Write - Fax - email them until they listen..something about a squeeky
wheel gets the grease. Remember they are supposed to represent us...The rest of America is going back to sleep for the next few months, until they are awaken from their slumber to vote again in '06.

It's has to be up to Us. Keep presure on them to fix this mess. Mass email them all...make those Fax machines smoke.
