Suppose Boxer Signed The Objection & NO SENATORS SPOKE OUT?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 01:23 PM by cryingshame
Just curious... what if Boxer had signed that objection and NONE of the Senators spoke out?

OR maybe only one did and the delay only lasted 5 minutes?

Did you bother to actually listen to EVERYTHING the Senators said?

Did you notice that the Senators had facts and evidence at their disposal and that they demonstrated a knowledge of what happened?

What if Boxer had signed that objection and NONE of the Senators spoke out?

4. Me too-- and I'm proud of all those who went to the rallies and
who reported back to us and posted photos and descriptions. My hat is off to you-- fantastic job.

If we give up the faith, we lose everything. We may as well commit mass suicide. But I'm going to continue to do everything I can to bring the truth to light. I will never give up.

2. That would have been terrible...
Victory doesn't just mean the huge, sweeping kind-- there are also smaller victories.

I never thought for a minute that the election would be overturned because the REPUGS CONTROL EVERYTHING!! Did anyone really think they'd have voted against Dub (i.e., their own self interests)??

We stood up and were heard and the Repugs came off in their usual blustery, BS way and we came off calmly with TONS of documentation that undeniably showed massive voter suppression.

Who looks pathetic, us or them??

3. I don't think that would have happened.
I think it was coordinated for her to object and give the other senators the opportunity to speak about election reform. I did listen to what they had to say and if you connect the dots I think it makes for as broad a picture as they could draw.

This is what I think happened.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=268574&mesg_id=268701

And I think it was inspired by the grass roots activism. We have ourselves to thank for what happened as well as appreciating what the democrats who rose to speak in Congress did.

6. Excellent post in your link.
It sounded as if both sides had coordinated what would be said. I saw the Democrats with the overal theme "This is not about overturning the election, it's about voters' rights!" Meanwhile, the Repugs: "This is a waste of time. We have better things to do. Democrats are loonies."

I think it played out well, but now we must FOLLOW THROUGH! I'm sure Michael Moore has more than enough footage to help us through Fahrenheit 911 1/2

11. As usual, the repugs just did their BS name calling...
As usual, they couldn't refute any of the charges.

As usual, they trotted out their BS rhetoric that never has and never will be considered a legitimate response to anything they've ever been accused of.

Little by little we have, we will, and we will continue to chip away at their lies and deception.

12. I think the Republicans looked pathetic.
I'm sure they thought nobody would be watching. Their arrogance is absolutely mind-boggling, how they can stand up there and belittle the citizens of the United States for wanting verifiable and transparent elections. But I'm convinced that their karma will catch up with them.

16. Blue_In_AK, I am absolutely certain of the karma thing.
This "administration" will go down in history as being the MOST CORRUPT, MOST DESTRUCTIVE we have ever experienced in this country.

They can bluster all they want but the smart people know the score. And that's not just in this country, either. The whole bleeping WORLD knows what a bunch of goons they are.

Make that instant karma

5. I understand, in theory, the idea that since only one senator had
to officially raise an objection that the others could duck the duty. But I think it is sleazy. 3 years from now, the Repubs will be able to produce the Senate vote record and say, "See? Boxer was the only nut in the whole Senate who thought there was vote rigging. No one else did."

And therein lies my problem with "playing politics." Dems are trying to play politics with pirates. Pirates cut your throat, rape your spouses and children before killing them, and they take all your shit back onto their pirate ship. You can't play politics with them. We must confront them head on, and I expect all Dem senators and congresspeople to realize this and pick up a fucking sword. We are past the time where we can finagle and footsie and deal our way through this, not just because the Bush crowd is cutthroat, but because Dems OUT HERE NEED BACKUP, or they are going to assume (correctly or incorrectly) that their leadership doesn't give a shit what they think. The leadership needs to consider what WE will do to them as voters, not what the Pubs might do to them. The perception that they aren't worried about what we think is turning us off in droves.

For a long while, I had hopes that there was some Dem strategy in this whole spineless thing, but I no longer think that. I really don't know what to think now.

9. The GOP Already TRIED To Portray Dems Who Spoke As Nuts...
and that's the whole point, IMO.

The Dems who spoke had facts and evidence and approached the whole thing in a non-partisan manner.

Someone suggested copying the speeches from BOTH sides and distributing them to friends, relatives etc.

It was SO OBVIOUS how out of touch and mean-spirited the GOP was.

7. Thank You
I listened and was impressed with most of what was said. The Democrats spoke with passion and from the heart.

Even my sister, who can't be bothered with politics, watched the debate and was moved and angered by the testimony. The distinction between right and wrong could not have been more distinct.

8. People would be bitching in the same B.S. manner they are today.
These people have not time for facts, either that or they never shared our agenda. They desire a fractured opposition party and they're trying to help that process along.

10. They did a good job. Lots of grey hairs saying important stuff
that might sound like tinfoil hat ranting from ordinary people but sound profound and rational from the Lautenbergs and Clintons and of the worlds. Will look great in the documentaries about Election Theft.

Dayton was right to be concerned that if a Kerry won an Ohio by a close margin a GOP Congress might abuse this law to say "hey, we dont think you really won Ohio so we are giving its electors to W. instead".

13. This was all worked out ahead of time.
The dems were in full communication with one another.

In fact, we now know that multiple senators were going to object, but it was decided that they could accomplish want they wanted (a debate) with only one objecting, and put fewer senators at political risk. Many of those senators did speak out, but there's not a formal objection or no vote on record for them.

The laid the stage for democrates being for election reform and republicans as mean spirited proponents of more of the same.
