I seriously heart Jon Stewart, BUT... |
|
I was very disappointed with the show on January 6. Gonzales, Gonzales, Gonzales. I saw some killer sound bytes that could have been used to zing Republicans left and right during the electoral challenge debate. I thought the Gonzales piece they did to open the show was actually not some of his best work. Why is he so quiet on the subject? I was hoping that his show would give it some attention, especially since so many people seem to get their "news" from The Daily Show. *sigh* Maybe Monday night????

2. The Daily Show tapes at 5:30pm. They couldn't have worked on it for 2 hrs. |
|
People.
The show doesn't even tape until 5:30 (closer to 6, actually IIRC, went to a few tapings).
So for them to talk about what happened, they would have had to wait until the two hours of debate was over (3) and then worked on something funny, gotten it to Stewart, and rehearsed it in around 2 hours. Actually, that would have taken 2 hours away from their work time, as they would have actually had to WATCH all of it.
Give them a chance to actually HEAR the news first!

4. Okay, okay. LOL! I thought the Gonzales hearing... |
|
was roughly concurrent with the EC debate. Well, I thought they overlapped. I know Gonzales started earlier. But now that you mention it, the clips I saw were from towards the beginning of the hearing.
Alright Jon, let's hear it on Monday!

5. Yeah--and they pretty much knew what was going to happen. |
|
They could form jokes around what could be reasonably expected to take place. They do similar things during their live shows.
With the EC debate, it was very much a wildcard situation, as we didn't know who else would go with Boxer, etc.

about this on Friday but some responses indicated that the show is taped midday and written in the morning so all that had transpired prior to 1:20 pm EST was that Boxer was going to contest so she probably gave her press conference while they were taping.
Unlike the MSM, I seriously doubt he'll let that event slip by

the rest of the media. We're lucky he can speak as freely as he does.

9. Some Of The GOP Vitriol Was So Over-the-Top Outlandish |
|
and so ultimately irrelevant to the discussion at hand... it has the Daily Show written all over it.
Kind of like Zell challenging Tweety to a duel.

10. the challenge and Gonzales on the same day isn't an isolated problem |
|
it was sort of symbolic of the kerry camp's inability to effectively deal with the media during the campaign. he was always late in responding, or stepping on his own message, or his message was drowned out by bigger stories in the news cycle.
the last part was probably just plain bad luck, but the kerry campaign was nearly historic in their crappy media management.

12. Yes, I am aware of that. |
|
However, the show does highlight political happenings in our country and oddly enough a surprising percentage of people tune in to The Daily Show to get their news. Besides, your comment could be said of any of the cable news channels as well.
