BLACKWELL - Letter Asks for Illegal Money
The Columbus Dispatch - 1/08/05
http://www.dispatch.com/election.php?story=dispatch/2005/01/08/20050108-B1-00.html

I never realized that Corp donations were illegal, and when his letter was passed around here a few days ago, I don't recall anyone ever mentioning that it was illegal.

But naturally, he tries to weasel out of it:

Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican who was co-chairman of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio, said the request for corporate checks was an oversight and that criticism of his partisan activities for Bush is "misdirected."

Other comments over on a dKos diary:

One comment that I totally agree with, was this one, by Rayne:

If Blackwell is stupid or arrogant enough to do this now, make an illegal request of this nature while under intense scrutiny, he's probably done it in the past.

We need to continue to dig for signs of other illegal activity beyond FEC, too.

Leopards don't change their spots, yes? If his personal ethics are this misinformed, he's likely to be a serial offender.

Keep digging. And keep watching, like a hawk.

1. Has he had any out-of-state illegal dealings?
If so, maybe you could get charges filed against him by a state other than Ohio. This guy should be rotting in a prison cell.

2. There is no excuse for any Secretary of any State
to make such a mistake.

The whole letter is proof of Blackwell's total disregard for election law, while at the same time it was his main job to uphold election law.
Blackwell is so busted. I hope the people in the State of Ohio nail his sorry butt.

4. When repukes break the law its an "oversight", or "indiscretion"......
When anyone else breaks the law......its the real deal.
