1. Contact your representatives |
|
The hardest will be to get Repukes on board, that may require some rallying of the base, so to speak. If you know any friendly Republicans, ask them to contact your Rep as well...

Write and/or call your senators, your representative, Hastert and Frist. Write a letter to the editor of your state's newspapers calling for support of it. There is also a great thread with tons of ideas. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=262387&mesg_id=262387

With friends like that, who needs enemies? Sorry, but I insist on remaining optimistic. And I think I have good reason to be. I highly doubt I'm the only newly born activist after the events of the past four years. I know I'm not alone.

You are correct. I was an activist in the '60s, early '70s, sort of went to sleep for 'way too long, and now I'm fired up. I know I can't be the only one. I've been conducting a pep rally on my husband (who tends to pessimism, I'm afraid) all morning, and I think I'm even getting him fired up.

8. My mom would have been a major activisit in the 60s |
|
if she hadn't been an army wife. That wouldn't have played well on the base, especially when her husband was in Vietnam.
She and my dad have jumped into Democratic activism with both feet since Bush was elected. I know I'm not alone.

All three voted straight democratic in November. I was a little concerned about my oldest daughter, somewhat of a soccer (and hockey) mom who's never been interested in politics at all, and who had bought into the lies about Iraq being somehow responsible for 9/11, but once I set her straight, she made me proud. She was furious that ** et al. would lie to take this country to war on a pretense. She's paying a lot more attention now.

9. Contact friends, family members, not all are internet savvy, make it easy |
|
for them to respond by providing names and addresses of officials to contact. I think the majority of the democratic base is not fully informed it is your duty to do this as a private citizen. Hell I'm a Canadian who has been informing all my US friends of what has been going on and directing them to alternate websites for action and information. Many were aware already, others were not but happy to have the information I sent at hand.
