Poll question: VOTE for the name of our Election Reform Group |
|
I want to thank everyone for contributing names for our election reform group.
I took all of the suggestions and condensed them down to a list of ten that I thought fit the purpose of the grouup. Our group will be working on election reform - getting the word out to the media, the elected officials and the public about election reform/fraud. We will do this by building a core group here at DU who are committed to continuing the fight and by linking with other like-minded Progressive groups.
So, please feel free to vote. I will let the voting continue until 10 am tomorrow morning.
So many of these are just great!
Let's start the voting!

1. How about VOTING RIGHTS FOR ALL AMERICANS |
|
You've got "voting rights" and the subliminable alusion to "all-American"

The full name is a bit long, but the acronym indicates something of what it is about. VOTE alone just sounds like encouraging people to vote.

So I like "Ohio Tea Party" (because this truly qualifies as taxation without representation) or "One Nation. . .Under Fraud." But I like all the others too.

15. hmmmm...thoughts on acronyms |
|
In general I'm not in favor of acronyms if you're looking for a name that is memorable. For ex. an acronym like "VOTE" doesnt distinguish this from other voting rights advocacy groups. With a name that is so generic--it will be called "...y'know, That Voting Reform Group" more often than not.
I do favor having the word vote or voters in the name. How about something short, but a little more descriptive like "Fair Vote" or "Voters United" --something that works as well as "move On" or "truthout".... I even preferred Election Reform Central.....(or something that implies the intended function as a network) --
I'll support this whatever you call it. But I vote for something a little less generic than "VOTE":)

Do you want people to plow through everything under "Vote" when they google this organization?? A second word would help in a search.

17. I think clean beats both open and transparent. |
|
I disagree Vote is the best from a PR standpoint, as what it stands for isn´t:
easy to say fast on point holds the complete point clear
Much of the tampering, skewing and manipulation today are happening in the open, and within parts of the system that are relatively transparent.
Papers will call you "Vote movement" or "transparency movement", pretty teethless and low conflict, easy to ignore.
I voted ACE, it sounds victorious and everybody understands what a clean election is.
Also for the link to gambling, you want people to think about about rigged games and cheating and such, how you need that extra security. You want to make sure the deck isn´t stacked, this people can fetch.
"All we want is clean elections", "we accept nothing like a level fight", this kind of speak will be hard both to attack or ignore even from a Fox standpoint. I mean since they have communicated to their entire audience that "both sides do it".

18. I think words like "clean" and "rigged" imply fraud, which |
|
we've seen the mainstream is reluctant to touch with a ten-foot pole. Whether or not fraud occurred the issue remains that our current system is unacceptable and needs to be changed.
