Media gave short shrift to allegations of election irregularities (summary
I know we know this, but thought this was a fair summary of the larger MSM newspaper accounts (not internet).

.....A January 6 AP article gave the allegations similar treatment, and other papers and news services did this is well, such as January 7 stories by Knight Ridder and the Los Angeles Times.

A January 6 Boston Globe article acknowledged the release of the Conyers Report but downplayed the allegations of voter fraud as "rumors have swirled on the Internet."

The New York Times reported on the release of the Conyers Report on January 6, but did not address any of the report's allegations. The Times did mention the "long lines" and "lack of uniform policies on provisional ballots" in a January 7 article on the January 6 congressional objection, but did not make any reference to the Conyers report. The Washington Post, in its January 7 report on the objection, made more specific reference to three of the allegations without mentioning the Conyers report.

Media gave short shrift to allegations of election irregularities

News outlets gave only cursory attention to the findings in a January 5 report on election irregularities in Ohio, released by Representative John Conyers Jr. (D-MI), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.The report's release coincided with a January 6 joint session of Congress in which Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) formally objected to the certification of Ohio's 20 electoral votes, basing their objection on the report's findings. While the media did report on Boxer's and Tubbs Jones's objection -- only the second such objection since 1877 --and the release of the House Judiciary Committee report, they made only vague and partial reference to the extensive findings set out in the report. ......

2. This is exactly what I'm doing right now!
I'm doing an investigation, or whaever you want to call it, titled "Talk About A Conspiracy Theory". It will have timelines of a few Major newspapers coverage of the post-election developments. I only have full access to a few newspaper archives, but I'm almost done with NYT now. The way they dismiss factual, well documented reports of targeted voter supression and irregularities of the results is bordering on criminal itself! That's one thing I was wondering about. I'll post a link here to the thread I start with my findings.

4. This was in the Sun-Times Friday
I was so sure more would at least be in the opinion pages, but this was a good one anyway:

Lawmakers launch historic protest of electoral vote

January 7, 2005

BY LYNN SWEET WASHINGTON BUREAU STAFF

Thursday was a historic day on Capitol Hill.

<snip>

Almost like the movie

Did you see "Fahrenheit 9/11"? The opening scene in Michael Moore's controversial pro-Kerry film has a string of House members -- led by the African-American members of the House -- pleading, just begging, for at least one senator to join them in objecting to the 36-day 2000 Florida recount. It would have been a symbolic protest, but symbols make powerful statements.

<snip>

"Four years ago I didn't intervene, I was asked by Al Gore not to do so, and I didn't do so,'' said Boxer. "Frankly, looking back on it, I wish I had. I do. I have to admit that. I'm not one that likes to admit mistakes. But, it really wasn't about Al Gore, it was about the voters, and I made a mistake."

It was different this year. Once again, the Congressional Black Caucus led the charge; the disputed areas in Ohio were in many African-American precincts.

It was difficult picking 4 paragraphs, so you should read the whole thing, it made me feel good to see it in a paper that is basically read worldwide, and by a columnist that is respected.
