Now We Know How Bush Made Man Of The Year From TIME
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 10:48 PM by PennyMan
Another Rigged Gallup Poll

As he says this, George W. Bush is about to set a political record. The first TIME poll since the election has his approval rating at 49%. Gallup has it at 53%, which doesn't sound bad unless you consider that it's the lowest December rating for a re-elected President in Gallup's history. That is not a great concern, however, since he has run his last race, and it is not a surprise to a President who tends to measure his progress by the enemies he makes. "Sometimes you're defined by your critics," he says. "My presidency is one that has drawn some fire, whether it be at home or around the world. Unfortunately, if you're doing big things, most of the time you're never going to be around to see them , whether it be cultural change or spreading democracy in parts of the world where people just don't believe it can happen. I understand that. I don't expect many short-term historians to write nice things about me."

2. In 1938 it was Adolf Hitler. In 1939 and 1942 it was Joseph Stalin.

In 1975 it was Ayatollah Khomeini.

The title is, in ignorance, sometimes mistakenly assumed to be an honor.

6. Bush gets the Ass Pirate of the Year Award 2004
awarded by elshiva for the most annoying shrill Republican liars.
Runners-up were Rumsfailed, Kindasleazy Rice, and Bill O'Lielly.

8. I almost threw up
when the "Person of the year" issue of Time arrived with the stupid Chimpinator's face on the cover. I couldn't believe it. I won't be renewing my subscription to Time, but not for this reason alone - for all the other Bush propaganda they have passed on over the last couple of years as fact. For example in its 22 November 2004 issue they had an exciting looking graphic of the fighting in Fallujah and Time stated with a straight face, "helicopter gunships attacked a group of insurgents trying to flee the city by boat". They totally ignored eyewitness accounts of civilians trying to flee across the river being wiped out by helicopter gunships.

9. Shrub's quote caught my attention...
..."Unfortunately, if you're doing big things, most of the time you're never going to be around to see them..."

Bush said something similar to Bob Woodward. Woodward asked Bush if America would judge his presidency favorably. Bush replied, "I don't know and I won't know because I won't be alive."

Ok...Bush has suggested twice that when he's dead, he'll no longer have knowledge or awareness of Earthly happenings.

Doesn't this contradict his religious beliefs and views of an after life? Bush obviously believes that he will die and go to heaven. Wouldn't an after life allow him to be very much aware of his legacy and also of the ramifications of his presidency?

That's always struck me as very odd.

Is sounds like he's saying--when you're dead, that's it.

Then again, maybe I'm smoking my socks. :)

10. I think he's saying he believes that the dead don't care.

I'm sure when he's dead he won't care one single bit more about people on earth than he does while he's still alive. For him, no difference at all.

edit: or maybe he thinks he'll be transported to another planet where he'll reign as a real king, with a crown, and a jeweled scepter, and a robe, and servants, yeah, and everything.

11. After he passes on, I figure his consciousness will be about the
same as it is now: several notches below that of my dog, and maybe one step above that of a hamster. So, see, since that is his level of understanding NOW, it stands to reason that it will never get any better, so he can't really know... anything.
