What about Boxer, Tubbs-Jones, Conyers on Oprah? |
|
Does anyone think the next organized effort should be for everyone to e-mail Oprah and ask her to have these 3 (or as many of the reps as possible) on her show? She has to realize how historic their actions were. One hour with them on her show would be the rocket fuel to get this off the ground, I think. Anyone else?

If she can spare an hour for Amber Frye (sp) she ought to be able to have these three on.
Pity Donahue doesn't still have his original talk show, he'd have them on.

I wrote mine last night and putting my feelings into words and realizing one person has the power to educate so many on this had me in tears. Please everyone, write to Oprah, tell her what it means to you, and then post the link to e-mail her on other forums so we can flood her offices with e-mails. Thanks to everyone who has already written!!!

Do you think she would have the courage to do the show? If she did, that would reach millions of voters. Splendid Idea!! :yourock:
We could begin a fax, email, telephone campaign to her production company. That would get her attention.

discrimination against womans rights and voters rights last year. it was um, bi-partisan, NOT! lol - put it this way it was supposed to be but when you start talking about womans rights and minorities rights the republicans always look bad. anyway she did a great job and it lit up her message board.
i didn't see the show just heard about it and viewed the message board.
she did the show with famous people not politicians if i remember correctly. but i think having conyers on would be a wonderful idea. and the others too.
he is such a lovely man. i would love to listen to him speak and answer questions for more then 5 minutes.
just dont know how much Opra is in the pocket of the networks. like i said she had to make her other show very non-partisan. she can do the same here. i would love to see Tom DeLay on her show. go ahead tom make my day!

NOBODY, I mean but NOBODY I know is aware of the election problems. If someone major, even Oprah, would get the word out, I am SURE more people would respond.<I>I show them stuff I get from here, or tell them stuff I've read, and their mouths open in shock, but then they just shake it off as if I was crazy. Oprah would be a way to legitimize the movement.

I was going to PM you and ask you if you'd re-send your e-mail to her. I love that you contacted Maya, too. I think it would be most effective if everyone wrote why they feel this issue shouldn't be swept under the rug and maybe add a link to a web page or document that backs that up (I sent a link to Conyer's report).

to vote. How every american should cherish their right to vote.
Maybe you should go from that angle. Appeal to her sense of right and wrong/ Oppresion is happeing across that nations. FL and OH.. NM ect.
She was very passionated about convincing people to vote, maybe now she needs to consider that election reform and educating America needs to happen.
Who would like to draft the letter?

59. Here's my soft-spoken request-emphasizing the non-partisan |
|
even though we all know that focusing the country on this issue will lead straight to exposing who's behind it. . .
I am probably an unlikely fan of your show but the honesty with which you approach important social topics has won me over many times.
I want to suggest that your clear approach to voting rights would be incredibly helpful to this country right now. The issue is being mis-characterized as a partisan debate, but in order to restore faith in our government and country to millions of voters who experienced discouragement and fraud at the polls in 2000, 2002, and 2004 we need to have a look at the issues in a non-partisan manner.
I believe that you could do this and re-focus the issue on the humanity and dignity that needs to be brought to this important topic. My ancestors fought and died for the right to vote. . and it seems that it is slipping away from us again.

61. Oprah interviewed Barack Obama |
|
for the November 2004 issue of her magazine, "O." Since her show is in Illinois, maybe we should include him as a possible guest with Boxer, etc., when we send E-mails?
From the interview:
OPRAH: Would you define what you're doing as a new kind of politics? I don't consider myself political, and I seldom interview politicians. So when I decided to talk with you, people around me were like, "What's happened to you?" I said, "I think this is beyond and above politics." It feels like something new.
BARACK: I hope it's new. Many of the moments that become "history" happen when politics expresses our deepest hopes. Both of us grew up in a time when there were so many reasons to be cynical: Watergate, Vietnam...
OPRAH: And the politicians themselves. That's why you didn't want to be one.
