Did Gore conceede in 2000?
I didn't start paying attention to this stuff until after 911. I read somewhere on DU that Gore conceeded, but then pressed for a recount. Can anyone give me the brief history?

2. His concession speech was great--
Well not that he conceded but what he said. He showed true class.

4. He conceded 36 days later.
Here's a link to an MP3 of the speech and a transcript. It was brilliant.

5. It was actually Ed Rendell - his campaign manager who conceded for him
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 09:35 PM by robbedvoter
he was on CNN - and was told of the SCOTUS decision and he blurted: "well, in that case. we'll concede"
I'll never forgive him that.

Also, mind you, pressure on him to do so was pouring from left and right (Robert Reich - another one asking for concession from day one!).
No united left behind him - Nader was cackling and saying "let's toss a coin - they are identical", his followers were laughing it off as it wasn't any of their biswax. Susan Sarandon was making bad jokes about "stupid Palm Beach voters" , Bill Press was laughing on the Spin Room at similar jockes by *ucker Carlson. All the media laughed at him - down to The Onion - that had a headline: Gore demands recount of Supreme court vote"
Freepers camped at his residence: "get out of Cheney's house"
And yet he fought.
Then the left ridiculed him for stopping to fight.
Today, a campaign hack for Kerry assured us that Kerry "won't pull a Gore" - but "will fight for us" Not for the election fraud , mind you, but in his day job that he carefully preserved.
I am getting angry as I write this.

12. That "pull a Gore" reference really pissed me off too, robbedvoter.
Gore was amazingly brave in the face of all that was going on.

Election night, he called Bush and conceded over phone but was called in limo & told may have won. So then he called W & took back concession before addressing crowd.
