What Repubs have said when I've told them about the vote fraud. |
|
Went to Happy Hour the other night and was talking to some Repubs about the vote fraud. When I said that I thought that Bush had not won, they said "If Kerry won - we wouldn't be saying that. Don't be a sore loser." I told them about the voting machines - which none of them believed "because if that were so - it would have been all over the newspapers." I tried to tell them about media bias and censorship and they reacted as if I was some "conspiracy theorist."
The only thing they would believe was that black voters and other Democratic areas were forced to stand in line for up to 9 hours - which they all agreed was wrong. They actually did seem concerned about that and believed it. I actually think that this was because the media did report on that problem to some extent.

3. The media is a chicken and egg argument to a lot of people. |
|
If they don't report it, it didn't happen.
People don't realize that the media has Jayson Blairs too, and that most reporters are just normal people. They miss things, they make mistakes, and they have to answer to their bosses.

5. Try to listen to Ray Taliafero on KGO 1-4 a.m. west coast |
|
This week he has been giving entire histories of US foreign policy, with Iran and Iraq in particular. He prefaces his comments, saying that many Americans would be shocked to know what America is doing with their tax dollars and in their name. He said he was shocked when he first found out that US policy was all about profit making and the exploitation of other countries' wealth. He said he was glad he was young when he saw the truth.
The guy is brilliant and has his facts in a row.

7. I am taking the tack with Pubbies that: |
|
1. Voters must be able to verify their registration quickly, easily, and in a timely manner.
2. Voters must be informed of proper polling locations and procedures.
3. Voters must be permitted to vote without impediment.
4. Ballot/voting instructions must be clear and easy to understand.
5. Voters must receive a paper receipt recording their vote.
6. Voters must be able to verify that their vote was counted.
7. The vote must be fully auditable.
So far no one has been able to disagree on this.

8. Voters must provide/show a valid picture I. D. Card so that the possibility of fraud is guarded against, you know the quaint idea of one person and then one vote.
Not the Illinois version of voting.
Sorry this is the recovering Republican in me talking.

12. I asked my freeperesque sister about election fraud last week... |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 03:21 PM by KansDem
She and I don't talk politics, but we suddenly got into a debate on the phone last week.
I asked her about election fraud in general and Ohio specifically and her response was, "Oh, there's been election fraud since George Washington..."
I couldn't believe my ears! Unfortunately, we concluded our call immediately after that statement, so I didn't have a chance to hear her explain that choice remark. I wanted to tell her "Yes, and there's been theft, rape, and murder since Day One, but we still continue to prosecute the malefactors when we catch them..."
But it left me with a extremely pessimistic view of our nation's future...
on edit: So is this the new meme among the right-wingers? That election fraud exists so "so what? Why worry about Ohio?"

How do you even begin to reason with people like this?

But, just remember, that every time you say just one or two things, you are sowing the seeds.
On a separate note, I always rec'd that they read Worse than Watergate, and The Price of Loyalty- both written by Repug insiders.

he said "well that would not surprise me"
