Oberlin Conservatory (Ohio) students distraught

OBERLIN -- Kerry’s campaign ended in Boston with cheers, but at Oberlin College it ended in tears.

"It’s difficult,” one student expressed.

The school has a long history of supporting the Democratic Party . . . students who give time, money and emotional capital . . . all of which was spent liberally yesterday.

“First of all I voted, which is not something to be overlooked when you wait four, five hours in line,” a student said.

At mid-day yesterday, there was a vibe in the voting line, but optimism these students felt build throughout the day stalled and then stopped around 1 a.m.

Final county vote:
George Bush (R) 2,794,346 51%
John Kerry (D) 2,658,125 48%

1. Oberlin has a history of dissent.
Maybe we need to enlist them to help sort out the fraud in Ohio.

2. Well, here's another
BS RESULT.

Someone should contact the students at Oberlin and tell them to start working on the fraud investigation.

3. Yet another Ohio college with extremely long lines...
First Kenyon College, where students waited in line for up to nine hours to vote, now we hear about Oberlin. How many others?

And 51% for Bush in that district? No. Way.

There are liberal arts colleges all over Ohio. Most of them are reliably Democratic precincts. It would be easy to target them.

6. Actually, those numbers were for Lorain County.
I work in Oberlin and grew up in Wellington (5 miles south of Oberlin). Lorain County has a couple of decent-sized cities (Elyria, Lorain), but the southern half of the county is very rural. I don't have a problem believing that Lorain County went 51% for Bush.

5. Fond memories of Oberlin in the late 60s
My mother used to work on city square there, and as a child I wandered the park and the halls of the music conservatory. They are quite progressive, always has been. A bastion of sanity in OH.
