A rebuttal to the “There’s been fraud since the election of G.Washington" |
|
I’ve heard some freepers use this argument to discount the election fraud charges in Ohio. They appear to have an “it’s there, there’s nothing we can do about it” approach to explaining the irregularities of Election2004, when in fact they don't want to face the prospect that their candidate cheated.
I got the idea from Fric and Frac, the car guys on NPR. I heard a program a couple of years ago when one caller said she had taken her car to an auto-repair place and explained the problem her car was having. The mechanic tried to shrug off the complaint with “Oh, that’s the way it is with all these cars!” (referring to year, make, & model).
The car guys said the best way to counter this kind of response is to say, “All right, then they all need to be fixed, so let’s start with this one!”
So the next time someone comments on ElectionFraud2004 by saying, “Oh, there’s been election fraud since George Washington…,” say back to them, “OK, then they all need to be investigated, so let’s start with this one…!”
At that point, the freeper would probably switch to another defense ("sour grapes," "poor loser," etc), but this is one way to put the kibosh on the "there's always been election fraud" argument.
Just an idea…

that is the lamest argument i've heard. it doesn't matter how long it's been happening, it doesn't matter who did it when, whether their Republican or Democrat. The fact is, it needs to stop, and it needs to stop NOW.

2. I agree. That is the counter-argument I have heard most and |

in my opinion it is incredibly weak. Just because something has always been broken doesn't mean you leave it that way. It's a ridiculous position and I suspect they know it. Bottom line, they're happy with the results and don't want to rock that boat.

the GOP is all riled up. If we can just get them to really stage an investigation that would include the paperless voting machines, we might be on to something!

backfire on the Republicans. If they press too hard they could open up a huge national can of worms. Hmmm.......

Sometimes people claim that there is no point to fussing because the Democrats are just as guilty as ballot-stuffing as the Republicans.
My initial response was, no ... the scale of the fraud is far greater with the Republicans. Just as, for example war with bows and arrows is war, and nuclear war is war, but the scale of the matter changes the argument.
Today, however, I would reply like this: Then you should be working twice as hard as I am to end it!

so you are saying that no election in America is a good one unless Americans get fraudulent representation?
Why do you always sound as if fraud is to elections as apple pie is America; can't have one without the other?
Anytime you have winners and loosers, that's a sport!

12. That statement about Kennedy is not fair |
|
There is no single state whose reversal would have given the election to Nixon in 1960. If Illinois would have given Nixon the election he was prepared to contest it. But that wouldn't have been enough -- even if Illinois (as rumor has it) really was stolen from Nixon.
Besides that, Bush has just stolen two in a row, which is a record. We are not even!
