Lucas County, Ohio home of election theft
A couple lived in their home in Toledo for 44 years and
were unable to vote.

Lucas County's dem or Kerry HQs was broken into and a computer with voter files
was stolen.

Lucas County also "let go" all of it's BOE people in December.

5. I think the Toledo Blade needs to issue a clarification.
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 11:56 PM by Carolab
Of all those provisional ballots that were issued and rejected, what was the distribution?

Are we to believe that NO provisional ballots were issued in Republican districts or that the received an EQUAL rate of rejection?

And what was the excuse for the couple who had lived in their house for 44 years and who checked and were told they were registered, only to find out when they applied for absentee ballots that they had been "dumped" in August but were never told? Why wasn't there a reminder sent to infrequent voters telling them they needed to re-register if they hadn't voted in the last few elections? Or did Republicans receive these but not Democrats? These are just a few of the questions I would like answered.

7. according to the article...
they did send out notifications and they were purged because of a federal requirement that if they don't vote in the last two elections they get booted.

the real problem was that the did the purge just before an election which is not right, it should be done just after an election so people have time to find out about it, and in this case when they checked a few months ago they would have found out there was a problem.

8. My letter to Fritz Wenzel
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 12:30 AM by Carolab
Mr. Wenzel:

I read your article with a mixture of appreciation and disappointment. There are several omissions of fact and misrepresentations that are unfortunately characteristic of much of the "media coverage" of this election's well-documented and widespread voter suppression and machine fraud.

In particular, I would have appreciated coverage of the following:

Of all those provisional ballots that were issued and rejected, what was the percentage distribution of Republican to Democrat?

Are we to believe that an EQUAL number of provisional ballots were issued in Republican districts or that they received an EQUAL rate of rejection to Democratic districts?

And what was the excuse for the couple, the Georges, who had lived in their house for 44 years and who checked and were told they were registered, only to find out when they applied for absentee ballots that they had been "dumped" in August but were never told? Why wasn't there a reminder sent to infrequent voters telling them they needed to re-register if they hadn't voted in the last few elections? The Georges are registered Democrats. Did Republicans receive "reminders" but not Democrats?

How many Republicans ended up voting in multiple-precinct polling locations where the chance of winding up in the "right place but the wrong line" was likely? Isn't it true that multiple-precinct polling locations were predominantly in Democratic-majority precincts?

How many Republican districts vs. Democratic districts were short-changed on the appropriate number of machines--the "Ohio standard" of 1 per 100 voters?

Your article states that "Democrats filed lawsuits in the days leading up to the election to change the way Ohio would treat its provisional ballots, but rulings from those lawsuits left the state's procedures largely unchanged." Why, then does Ms. Hicks-Hudson assert that "last-minute court action over how elections officials should handle provisional ballots may have served to compound the problem"? And, if so, why is it that Ms. Wolfe's Elections Division didn't ensure that the individual county boards of elections issue clarifications for pollworkers?

You quote Blackwell's "spokesman" Carlo LoParo as saying "There were several contributing factors" for the problem in Lucas County, and "that the registration drives conducted last year by independent interest groups created trouble in Lucas and Cuyahoga counties." Were these registration drives limited to Democrats? And were the problems equally distributed across Republican and Democratic majority precincts?

I believe you could use a more detailed understanding of "What Went Wrong In Ohio". I suggest you begin reading from a few more detailed sources before you write on this subject again:

15. What the BOE person meant about the mix-up due to rulings...
There had been a successful lawsuit to have provisional ballots counted even if they were cast in the wrong precinct, just so long as the voter voted in the correct county. However, that ruling was overturned at the last minute. I think it wasn't announced until after voting was underway on the 2nd. Thus, poll workers could have mistakenly accepted ballots in the wrong precinct without realizing they were doing anything wrong. Of course, the question then becomes: WHY didn't the BOE make sure EVERYONE knew?

Fritz will probably find your letter offensive, which makes me smile. It's about time someone knocked him down a peg or two. He has written some pretty smug columns over the years.

9. Don't forget the "crack for registrations" scandal
The woman got sentenced recently, iirc. she was from Toledo, the crack-head was in Defiance.

I agree that the timing of the purges is crucial. I need to go back and check to see if I saved stories when the local BOEs were talking up the huge increases in registrations and see how that relates to the timing. The "interest" stories would prompt people to verify their registrations like this couple did, and then "know" they were OK *before* the purge.

There wouldn't be any need for the BOEs to discriminate in the purge or send notice to anyone (probably not required) --- all that would be needed is that the Repugs know to warn *their* voters to verify registration or re-register AFTER the purge. (those may be some interesting numbers to look at...number of Republican "re-registrations" after the purge)

11. I've seen a post say this before: where are Woodward
and Bernstein? Here's a burglary, clearly probably politically motivated. Did the President know? What did he know and when did he know it?

12. I know. I was thinking about this tonight.
We have motive, method and opportunity. Wasn't that enough to convict Scott Peterson?

I feel like a victim of rape or embezzlement, but the investigators are telling me there isn't enough evidence to prove I was defiled or defrauded. I know I was victimized, but no one will listen or properly pursue the case.

13. The woman didn't get sentenced; she died.....
...the guy she hired and supposedly paid with crack is who went to court. I believe she died on the very day the guy was to appear in court. Last I heard authorities didn't know if she overdosed on purpose or accidentally, but at that time it was thought to be an overdose of drugs.
