Harvest Moon: Controversial Evangelist Reaps 'Faith-Based' Windfall

At least four operatives of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church are on the federal payroll or getting government grants through President George W. Bush's "Healthy Marriage Initiative" and other "faith-based" programs.

An investigative report by the San Francisco Chronicle found troubling
connections between a government - sponsored "Certified Marriage Education Training Seminar" and Moon front groups. The Oakland seminar was led by Josephine Hauer, a graduate of Moon's Unification Theological Seminary in New York and a "marriage specialist" in the employ of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

While Hauer promoted "healthy marriage culture" as a federal employee , critics are concerned about her connection to Moon's organizations. Before working at HHS, she directed the marriage education program at the University of Bridgeport which was taken over by a Moon group in 1992.

The three-day government seminar awarded certificates to participants issued by her former university.

Anyone can proclaim to be the messiah. It’s easy:
find a public place, a corner outside a liquor store,
a city square, and start preaching the gospel. Provided
such individuals are not inciting violence, they’re

who are convinced they are the next Jesus Christ; they will

wife were decked out in robes. He also preached about his

My friends and I decided to go check him out. He didnt speak any english...so he and an interpretor stood up at 2 separate podiums. First RevMoon would expound like an evangelical nutcase, all in Korean...then this tall thin korean man(poindexter type with thick glasses, round black frames) repeats what Moon had said in English. "Revrend SunYunMoon said....", all in a gentle soft spoken voice. The contrast of Moon and his interpretor was just HILARIOUS.

But Bush didn't listen and he rejected my idea, which was God's will. Where is he now? He is out of office. After I met with Kim Il Sung, I sent to him a carefully thought out plan. Even to this day, I have received no answer from him. That means he is thinking, "What is Reverend Moon's idea?" Through The Washington Times and the other media which we have at our disposal, I introduced this whole concept, even bringing to America an interview with Kim Il Sung, who is the most remote national leader in the world. It was Father himself who softened Kim's attitude toward America, the very Kim Il Sung who has been going against America. It didn't really take so much money to make such a thing happen. The world knows by now that even though Reverend Moon may have money, he does not use it for himself. American truly needed help, and Father had all the help they needed. I offered it to them, spending my own effort and money to help them. Still this country doesn't come along. Even God feels there is nothing more he can do in this country.<<<

Rev. Moon's submarines, sold to Kim Jong-Il: nuke threat?

Jane's Defense Weekly is reporting this week that Kim Jong-Il, unstable North Korean dictator (I wrote about his kidnapping habit in the British Guardian) may be able to target California with sea-launched missiles. His know-how, the Reuters story relates, comes from 12 ex-Soviet submarines that fell into his hands. They came with their original launch tubes and stabilizing gear intact. Where does Kim get those wonderful toys?

Funny story: According to U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency documents from 1994 (which you can browse here), they were furnished by Reverend Moon.

Robert Parry, the ace reporter who broke the Iran-Contra story, obtained these files through the Freedom of Information Act while writing his 2000 story, "Rev. Moon, North Korea and the Bushes," about Moon's gifts to the Communist regime. Read on, if you dare. (Glossary: KN = North Korea)
