Our own "media blackout" On 1/20 cancel your subscription to any and all
media (corporate propaganda media). That means your newspaper (if it is repug which in all likelihood it is) and your satellite or cable subscription. Blackout those lying bastards! Bleed em dry!

1. Many, many newspapers endorsed Kerry in '04.
More than Bush, if memory serves.

7. My post suggested you cancel "if it is repug" otherwise by all means
support those that speak the truth.

2. My mom loves our comcast

Can I call comcast and say that I want it cancelled on Jan. 20th and the next day I call and resubscribe?

Will I have to pay a cancellation fee?

Someone did call yesterday from the LA TIMES, they wanted to deliver it for $1 a week. I was thrilled to tell them NO because other than Robert Scheer they were Republican plants! The man hung up in my face - fine with me.

9. Understandable. Then perhaps you could just call them and suggest
that you are consudering doing so if they continue to support propaganda programming. Or perhaps you could ask them to broadcast the audio of Air America Radio.

3. My paper endorsed Kerry
The Repukes had a conniption.

Springfield News Leader. They've been posting a lot of anti-repuke/fundie/bush letters lately, too. Rock on.

4. Aren't we all hoping
that the MSM covers the Bush Inauguration with all of the protests and demonstrations against him going on? Telling them we're going to black them out isn't going to convince them to air the protests.

I think I'll keep my subscription to my hometown, locally-owned and operated, newspaper, the Journal-Gazette. But you do what you got to do.

10. Please see post #9. Take some action to influence truth seeking
whether it be by cancelation or praise. Suggest to them you are politically concsious and are monitoring their trends. I like the positive approach of suggesting they do something you favor. Perhaps they could audio feed Air America Radio.

6. I have a hard time watching, but I think I have to.
I caught a little bit of Scarborough last night, I can't believe anybody can watch that and not see right through his bias.It was about Bush and religion. I sent an email this morning. We have to stay informed about the misinformation.

8. Okay ...

'Cept the CEO of my cable company gave money and support to Kerry, and I don't subscribe to the local newspaper anyway, because it's a RW rag.

So, I guess I'll put parental block on FOX and CNN. Oh, wait, I already do that.

So, think I'll have a sandwich. :-)

13. I'm a PB&J man ...
I was serious about FOX and CNN, BTW. I parental blocked them so I wouldn't accidentally hit on them. I can find my news in other ways.

This has a potential benefit, as well. The cable companies can poll their boxes and compile reports of most-watched channels and, if they so choose, which are parental blocked. I doubt mine bothers, but it's a thought. I also block the religious networks and the shopping channels.

I have suggested a couple times pulling AA into the digital music lineup. They say they aren't wanting to put traditional radio talk on there, which is probably truthful.

They do carry Sundance.

12. Comcast is ALL cable subscribers can get
in my area. I do have a DISH, which thankfully isn't Direct TV, but because I use broadband for my PC... it's Comcast or NOTHING!!

I was VERY distressed about this right after the election, and went out and boycotted all kinds of places. Bu my mother-in-law lives with us and she has Alzheimer's and TV is about the ONLY thing she shows any interest in. Soooooo, we're kind of STUCK!

But I've written many many emails and letters to sooooooo many news outlets, before, after and NOW! I still write them and give them a dose of "my opinion!"

14. I canceled DirecTV on the day.
They announced Rupert Murdoch was taking over. When I told them why, they offered to cut my monthly bill by $20. I said no thanks.

I pay for the St. Pete times by the year, and I just got my renewal notice. I'm sending a letter to the editor to explain why I'm not renewing. Lack of coverage of local candidates, and misleading information.

23. That is a great story! I hope they get the message.
I did something quite similar two months before the election when my local paper just kept pissing me off with so much disinformation and bs editorializing. They did endorse Kerry howevfer everything else they did was pro chimp. It is devious how the media does this. They will purposely slant the news or provide half truth or worse yet; no coverage at all. They also rely on AP way too much as I see the AP as very, very suspect
I had had enough and decided to cancel my 14 year long subscription to the Raleigh News and Observer. BTW they didn't even do one iota of fraWd coverage and NC was among the most obvious examples of electoral fraWD!

Great deal too, like 70 or 80 channels, including CC, SCI-FI, and others.

Not canceling that... sorry. :) Besides, I'd pay for it anyway, and just not have it.....

17. I definitely would if I subscribed to a paper that endorsed Bush-- but I
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 12:53 PM by spooked911
cancelled my local paper long ago. I let my subscription to Newsweek lapse because I was tired of them. I can't really cancel my satellite network though-- if I could just cancel CNN, FoxNews and MSNBC I would.

18. So who do we subscribe to????
I suppose I could cancel my Newsweek and USNews and World Report - they all seem to be the same drivel. I could cancel my Nation - haven't read it since they said Kerry lost and get over it (without proving it). I had just subscribed to it. The Washington Spectator is rather thin. Mother Jones? Is it OK? I let the Washington Post weekly expire.

After decades of watching CNN and my local news I stopped right after 9/2.

I really don't know where to get honest investigative reporting anymore. Any suggestions?

28. I know what you mean....
I am not renewing my subscription to Time after the 2004 Despot of the Year was anointed. OK, I realized that Time does more pop culture than real news anymore, but that was the last straw. I have heard of a few others doing the same....nobody seems to buy the argument that Person of the Yr is a "notable" not necessarily good person. How about Humanitarian of the Year? Peacemaker of the Year? Somebody Good of the Year?

There's a vacuum in news magazines worth reading now I think. I get
most of my news online, and I think that's the way it's going to be for me. I sometimes pick up Mother Jones or Harper's on the newsstand. As for local papers I follow them so I can write LTTE about their serious omissions from time to time.

TV--am really only going to support C-span (yay), Link (yay), Comedy Central (yay)--from now on.
The rest are only good for media watch/complain--the only way I can handle viewing News Distortion and Disinformation.

19. Forget cable. Free TV is all over the web now and the channels
are much better for you. 485 cnahhnels worldwide available for free at www.TV4all.com The European music channels are so much better than our own, theres news unbiased and Comedy Central. What more do you need? Cancel that cable. Kick Bush's media support in the balls. turn off all the military propaganda and watch the war go away! You make your own heaven or hell in this world. My gut says Joe Scarborough equals hell.

Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 07:50 PM by bush_is_wacko
TV.

I wish I could just cancel out individual stations. Maybe I will write a letter to my cable company requesting access to all the C-span channels and one local TV station I think leans liberaland NOTHING else. I have noticed that the station is on time delay. When the station goes to news breaks or news commercials or at the beginning of every broadcast the words cannot be heard for several seconds. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that?

My paper, while not strictly liberal does print liberal articles and editorials.
