ELECTION FRAUD SEARCH ENGINE - Your comments are needed...
I try to keep up with US election related news from a lot of sites dedicated to election information. And then there are the news stories that don't really change. It hard to keep up with all of them in bookmarks.

I've been playing around with the idea of a search engine dedicated to election related material. I've built a small "proof of concept" site. There are still many details to work out.

Before I go any further, I was wondering if interested DUers find a minute to take a look at it and comment.

My question: Is this a tool that people researching election fraud would find helpful or does everyone pretty much have their own way of locating resources in the election-sphere?

Link: http://www.edwardsdavid.com/sublimedegree/spider/

About 15,000 pages have been indexed from various election/voter sites, blogs, forums, news stories, universities, research and gov. sites.

I haven't bothered with changing the page style/graphics so it's pretty ugly and it doesn't have a name. This URL is just for testing and is subject to go down at anytime.

2. Targeted indexing.
Some of the usual fraud suspects like Blackwell, Feeney, Hicks, Diebold, Sequoia, Triad were targets. There should be plenty if hits on these.

4. Great, great idea
and a good start. But it is right now pulling stuff from a lot of issues; I searched under my last name and got of Iraq war stuff, so some refining may be needed if you want to keep it on point.

That having been said, if I put this on my blog, will it destroy your server when people come to check it out?

7. It should be OK to put on your blog
The worst thing that will happen is my server will be slow. That's OK with me.

Maybe a few smaller more specific engines would work better. The engine already has the ability to search on a specific site. I have just turned it off on the form because there were so many sites.

Also, thinking about adding a link on each result that would allow users to request an item be removed.

I'm open to suggestions... I am not going to be offended if it turns out that this idea won't work.

It will be interesting to see what happens when several people are executing queries at the same time.

15. Thank you, great tool!
1. What are supposed to be the differences in the templates, other than color?

2. Do the results appear in date order with the most recent displaying on the 1st page?

3. Could there be an enhancement whereby we could request a search on a specific date range? For example, I might just want to look at articles for Blackwell beginning 12/01/04 to present date?

Thanks for setting up this great tool!

18. Thanks.
Some of the templates might show more or less fields but there is no functional difference.

The results are supposed to be weighted based on best match.

The last modified date from the headers is stored in the database so it wouldn't be difficult to add this search criteria.

20. I just found 1796 results for "exit polls". This is a valuable service...
and I am curious, why when I do a Google search for this, do I get
1,610,000 results?

21. Google searches many more sites
When I do a search on google for "exit polls" (with quotes) I get 676,000.

This search engine wasn't intended to replace google, just narrow the search. You'll find many things in google which haven't been indexed by this site. You'll also find some things in this site that haven't been indexed by google.

If you are wondering how I choose the sites being indexed then that is a longer story. You probably have a list of bookmarks that you watch... the search engine also has a list. Some, like this forum, are updated several times a day. Some less often. Some, like news stories, are never re-indexed.

26. Foreign Language sites on US election fraud
I have put together some search terms in a few other languages. I wonder whether you'd be interested in adding non-english data-bases? I put a few non-English language URLs that are relevant to election fraud in the US in 2004.
Thanks for getting this thing going.
