One Week from Today, It's Going to Hurt Real Bad....
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 08:57 PM by Shalom
Let's face it: on Inauguration Day, it's gonna hurt real bad to see the smirking face of a flesh-eating virus steal the Presidency for the second time, and receive the Oath of Office from his co-conspirator William Renquisling, Chief Justice of the United States of America.

It's going to hurt real bad, because:

1. There were a number of times when we felt: We finally got the bastards, only to be disappointed in the end.

2. There were a number of times when we felt the big gray mass of the American electorate would finally start listening, only to be disappointed in the end.

But in one week, we will witness one of the saddest events in this century.

And we won't know if it will take a month, a year, or a decade to undo the damage, and take back our country.

It's really going to hurt real bad when it happens. Be prepared.

21. NOT MY PRESIDENT . . .
for I live in America where Presidents are elected, not selected, and where the REAL title goes to the one who EARNS it, not CLAIMS it. Some will call him President and he can "officially" be their President, but I will never acknowledge him as my President. I had to do it in 2000 and I swear I will never bow to cheaters, liars, and thieves again.

(Bring on the guillotine I guess . . . :hurts:

Once shrub is sworn in, we will be forced to obey his wishes,
and if we don't the full force of the law enforcement will
be staring in our face. It is indeed a SAD DAY, Jan 20th.

29. Can I take my pillow?
Or are you talking the kind of jail that is overseas and south of FL that people do not return from? Either way, I will be a martyr if I must but frankly I do not think that he will care that I do not Hiel Bush! or even refer to him as anything resembling a respectable title. If so, then I may well be put to the test. Until then, (and probably even after then), he is NOT my President.

LOL. We'll still have all the same rights we have today (for now, anyway). We can still fight him through all of the means we are using right now. He's not being sworn in as God, as much as he would like to think he is.

He does not make the law.

51. Best way to ease the pain
is to show up at Pennsylvania Ave & 4th St NW, on the north side. The ANSWER coalition is setting up bleachers (yes, their own bleachers!) for the first time in US History. I'll be there!

from their announcement:

A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition
wins the right to set up antiwar bleachers
and hold a rally on the north side of
4th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW!

Updated logistics, bus transportation and more
The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition will be establishing antiwar bleachers along the inaugural parade route. The National Park Service has acknowledged our right to set up bleachers at 4th St. and Pennsylvania Avenue NW (north side).

A.N.S.W.E.R. has obtained a permit to hold a large convergence, build bleachers, and to hold a rally along the Inaugural route. This is the first time in Inaugural history that the antiwar movement has secured access to build bleachers along the parade route.

George Bush-as he rides in the inaugural motorcade-will be forced to pass a large bleacher set up filled with signs demanding "U.S. Out of Iraq Now, End the Occupation - Bring the Troops Home Now," "End Colonial Domination from Palestine to Haiti, and Everywhere," "Health Care, Education, Housing, and a Job at a Living Wage Must be a Right!" and more.

You can bring your own signs or pick up signs, banners and other materials at this location. Any sign that is made of cardboard, posterboard or cloth and that is no larger than 3 feet by 20 feet and 1/4 inch in thickness can be brought to the parade route.
To cover the cost of the bleachers, the sound system, stage, transportation, printing placards and other materials, we will need to raise $30,000 in the next few days. We can't do it without your help. Please make a generous donation. You can make a contribution through a secure server by clicking here, where you can also find information on how to contribute by check.

13. I will watch if the Hotel Employees go on strike
They are threatening to go out at many of the 4 or 5 star hotels. The union has issues that the hotels are not addressing and the union smartly figured out that it might get some attention if they struck next week. The head of the Service Employees Union (i think) was on AAR today and said it doesn't look like there is going to be any progress on talks. And these employees that will go out are all vetted because they regularly deal with visiting dignitaries and such. No maids, no bus boys, no hotel services and no food. That would be interesting. And I don't think the District of Columbia government is too happy about getting stiffed with the bill for police overtime and such. This could be a bigtime screw-up. Arrogance comes home to roost.

We have to keep working:

Keep pressure on Congress to help the dems have some backbone.
Work locally to get voter verified paper ballots with auditing.
Frame the debate.
Keep digging into the election fraud to build the case for impeachment.
Keep exposing all the lies.

We've got LOTS to do!

For those of us who can't make it to DC, there are actions going on in many cities.

17. I'm with bleever. Take a small step back and take back the day.
Will W be inaugurated? Yes.

Will we still know the criminality that got him there? Yes.

So, why step on your own toes? Get with people who have a clue that day. Celebrate what we know and what we're doing. Don't in any case allow the lifesuckers to take your day away.

Spread the news, flyer, have a counter inaugural dinner.

Just say, "sorry, not drinking the koolaid."

Remember Reagan's memorial? And how according to MSM, he was the best President EVER? Well, here in California, we knew better. We turned off the tube and reminded ourselves of his legacy, like institutionalizing homelessness for one.

We are not helpless. Did Stephen Stills write that? :)

18.  See, that's the difference!
For me that moment was in the last week of November. When it became clear that, as usual, just a few good men (and women! BB) were going to speak and stand up. That, once again, political calculation was going to prevail over principles. Reframing over truth. And that the majority was going to remain blind and deaf to the betrayal. As to the damage, it is irreparable because of that too: it's one thing to repair what the idiot will have dis-accomplished. It's another to earn back the respect after having objectively accepted, conceded even, the unacceptable.

because of the efforts here and other internet communites, a shadow of doubt has officially been cast on his 'selection'. Watch his face. Watch his "State of the Union" address. Then watch the elected Dems make their moves to take back this nation.

Maybe it is all about attitude, and sticking to our beliefs, which if grounded in positive energy, are what makes the reality of our situation.

But then again, it's not just about DU'ers, but our young soldiers dying in Iraq, and dead Iraqi civilians, and a very Ugly American image around the world.

56. thanks if u get more info on Indymedia--please post it as a separate item
It helps me a lot to see visual evidence of our side protesting. And to all those who are actually going to be there...thank you so much.

Likewise on Jan 6, when I watched C-span, it was great to hear those Dems speaking out so strongly. Helped put that venomous Repug bile coming from the other side in perspective. I noticed that The Daily Show used that principle a couple of days ago--they showed clips of Repugs Ney and Pryce speaking on Jan 6, juxtaposed with Dem reasonable objection. Very effective to use that contrast--easy for the Daily Show--the repugs just handed it to them.

Although I will be limiting my exposure to the inaugural BS, I won't close off to it entirely as I am trying to understand the phenomenon of how The Juggernaut stole our country. And a large part of how they have done it is by controlling media and surrounding themselves with an invincible image. Am trying to look at--to see--what's really going on more objectively. I believe it's very important to fight negatives (such as installation day)with immediate positives. That works better for me if it's a direct link with the source of the problem, eg I would feel better doing tasks related to voting issues than checking out--but whatever works, to get through it with your sanity. Either way, it's best to acknowledge the gut feelings of fear and loathing and make a plan.

Whoever feels down on that day or afterwards, come to DU and get re-charged. There are so many positive expressions here today even. So Shalom thanks for anticipating the angst and giving the place to once again reaffirm.

44. I am going to be on an island somewhere drowning in a margarita...
Seriously, I'm going to be in Key West with my apolitical in-laws. We go every year and I completely lose track of the "real world" for five days. High-speed internet connection? Not there!

The inauguration will come and go without me being aware of it. I'm even bringing my own tequila and lime to the condo so I don't have to spend a dime in a bar.

Hey Andy, that was my cell number. If anything exciting or newsworthy to a diehard democrat happens that day, feel free to call me.

;)

53. I intend to ignore it.
I can't do otherwise. I like the idea of planning something activist-based to do that evening... May have to chit chat with my activist friends, maybe we can get together and drink vino and watch a nice movie or something.

57. It actually hurt more in 2000
for me. Maybe after four years I've become desensitized or something. It is a tragedy, but the grief isn't as strong as in 2000.

64. His self-imposed coronation is a HUGE BETRAYAL. Ultimately, he
will find no refuge from his self-serving lies and his proven betrayal to the American People. We're known for being a forgiving people...I get a feeling that is all about to change! This gives me comfort. His karma is huge...and I believe in the power of truth. We may face a rough day on Jan 20th, however, his day will be empty in content and meaning. Let George play dress-up...60 million Americans will never recognize the legitimacy of the office. Never.

65. folks, I still think that each of us should do something on 1/20
and maybe over the whole weekend to reaffirm the work we've done for the last two years, the grind that was the election and more, the hard, good work we've done since.

Let's review.

Pinocchio is going down. We know what he did. We know how his operation works. His numbers are tanking and his little horrible war is going as badly as possible.

On the other hand, WE put together a historic coalition for this last election. Our progressive base is reproducing like bunnies, lol. And, none of us, no matter how beat up, seem to want to go away and eat worms.

So, let's have a wake for MendacityCentral next week. Take it back. Get with your people. Make some noise, eat, drink, plan, laugh.

No matter the theater, no matter the farce on the tube, we've been in his pocketbook and we KNOW where he lives. Celebrate that. Let's make this Homecoming Week. We've earned it, deserve it -- and there's so much to talk about.

Cheers,
Beth

70. Our day will come and justice will be served up on a platter w/ * head in
the center of it. He is going down this time around, it is all about to catch up with him there are just to many angry Americans for it not too. Just remember to stand angry and do not give up, in the end he will also fall.

71. Bob Novak almost made me cry.
Yesterday, while on the treadmill and watching CNN, that old windbag Novak did a piece on inaugurations with clips from decades past. When I saw Kennedy I got teary and as they went through the roster I thought I would start sobbing because, at the very end, there it was: the idiot, moron, war criminal, deserter, wealth loving, poor hating fool of a person being crowned POTUS. Sometimes it seems like this can't be happening again. It has to be a bad dream.
