What Kerry said to 13 year old Syrian
Kerry, who is on a two-week tour of the Middle East, arrived Friday from Iraq, where he met U.S. troops in the volatile northern city of Mosul.

Kerry, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was in the West Bank for Sunday's Palestinian election and was expected to visit a polling place.

After Kerry left the Foreign Ministry on Saturday, 13-year-old Mustafa al-Nabulsi approached him with a drawing of the senator as a soldier in his Vietnam days.

"You have made me much more important than I was, though. You made me a general," Kerry said.

"I wish you were the president," al-Nabulsi said.

"Thank you very much. So do I," Kerry said.

CAPTION Syrian President Bashar Assad, left, talks with Senator John Kerry, a democrat from Massachusetts, in Damascus on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2004.

JFK sure has been actively meeting and talking with many important people throughout the Middle East and Europe as you are aware. John is acting like the great President he truly is. Man, it must be burning Shrub up! Lol:toast:

15. He(****) has pointedly TOLD them to keep stories like this away from him
That will make it all the easier for Kerry to gain international support. Dem's should take advantage of ****'s unwillingness to hear the bad. BTW, it looks like EVERYONE, but****Co wishes Kerry were prez. He is being well received EVERYWHERE he goes. This should be an indication of where things are headed if **** wants to continue on this path of self delusion.

He is more well respected and loved the world round than Bush ever will be. I really hope this is just the beginning of Kerry shadow Presidency. I want to see him continue to travel the world and promote the ideas he promised to during the campaign. he sure seems to intend to do it. Under the radar is just his style. I like it. It's more effective.

66. I think we already have a parallel universe. The universe of those who
only know the world as portrayed by MSM, and the world of us to whom Conyers addressed his thank you letter: "For this challenge to Ohio’s electors to have occurred, I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the internet activists, who spread the story of my efforts and supported me in every way possible. I am also thankful to the alternative media, including talk radio and blogs that gave substantial attention and investigation to these matters when all but a handful in the mainstream media refused to examine the facts. I cannot thank all of you personally, but you know who you are."

25. I agree (that Shrub is QUITE ticked by Kerry's trip abroad).
AND Rove...since they insist on "controlling" everything... particularly public opinion. Yet they CAN'T control the International community's clear preference for Kerry that was also polled prior to the Election. And they clearly couldn't stop a child's honest gut reaction that he wanted Kerry instead for President.

That story made my heart skip a beat when Kerry said, "So do I." Like I said on another thread, I really don't believe JK has TRULY 'let go'...despite his saying he's "moved on." I'm sure that child's heartfelt preference for him really touched him. And I'm guessing a lot of other world leaders he's meeting with, feel the same way too.

This gives me hope. I still remain hopeful, despite the odds. For what he needs to accomplish can NOT be accomplished from the Senate. And I'm sure he knows that.

40. Question: Has the MSM covered Kerry's trip???
I haven't been paying attention to the MSM.

Have they covered ANY of Kerry's overseas activities at all?

His presence in Iraq certainly was newsworthy. I didn't see any coverage of it.

This will be so sad--crushing--if Kerry's good works and diplomatic skills are not acknowledged.

The public must see Kerry in action. This is information they deserve to have.

51. Well, there are these little hearings next week
in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to confirm Condi Rice as the next Secretary of State. Among the Democratic committee members is one, John F. Kerry, (D) MA.

It is possible that the esteemed Senator from MA might have gathered some info on his recent Middle East and European tour and might have some interesting questions for Ms. Rice.

The hearings start Tuesday at 9:00 and are going to be carried live on C-Span. (streaming audio for those of us at work at http://www.capitolhearings.org/)

Wednesday, the distinguished Senator from Massachusetts will be at another hearing to confirm Mike Leavitt as head of HHS. I wonder if Mr. Kerry might have a few questions about today's budget cut announcements to programs under the HHS banner.

Might this break the post-election embargo on JK stories?

Kerry Works on Fence Mending with European Leaders
14 January 2005

In the past two days, John Kerry has wound down his trip to the Middle East meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, and French President Jacques Chirac. Perhaps, Bush could take a few lessons from Kerry’s diplomacy skills…

Kerry was in Paris at the close of a trip to Europe and the Middle East including visits to Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Israel and the West Bank.

In a more than 45-minute meeting with President Jacques Chirac, the former presidential candidate discussed frayed relations between France and the United States.

"I'm convinced there's an opportunity here to bring that relationship closer," he said.

He and Chirac discussed Iraq, Iran and the Middle East peace process, Kerry told reporters.

83. Great photo...
Great story too. Shows the real John Kerry, the very compassionate, human John Kerry. His entire trip to the Mid East was a moving diplomatic journey and a glimpse of what could have been...

42. There is a strategy emerging
I don't know what his plans are for NOT contesting the election, but he does seem to be acting like the loyal opposition.

When he gets back I'd expect to see some efforts on that Health Care for Every Child thing, as well as Election Reform and a few other major issues that might resonate with the people. Social Security might be another one and perhaps Energy and Homeland Security too. Any agreement that could help with Iraq would be a major coup!

If he can show that he can do a better job than Shrub and make Shrubco look more like the incompetent sadistic morons they truly are, it might resonate with the people on some level and maybe we can win back Congress in 06, provided of course that we get Verified Voting by then.

I can't worry about 08 really, but if JK can keep this up for 3 more years, and any of it actually works, he deserves another shot at it, IMHO.

I hope he isn't silenced though (I don't mean like the other JFK, just by the noise machine and the Repug leadership). It's time to make them feel ASHAMED of themselves if such a thing is possible.

Smirky has done so much damage to America and our image overseas. He acts, looks, and sounds so much more presidental than that crackhead-in-chief. I would have been glad to call him "President Kerry." Thanks for posting this.

62. Imagine a Presidential President
What a refreshing thread! I guess Kerry IS the de facto head of the Shadow Government (not to be confused with the other shadow government). The rest of the world must be reminded that (perhaps more than) half of all U.S. voters DID NOT vote for Bush. Kerry wears well. I look forward to him squaring off (again) with Bush and with the Democrats trying to cripple him for 2008. 2008 is in some ways a century away, but for now he is becoming a powerful symbol for what could have been. That should be a good thing for the Democratic Party and satisfying for the millions who voted for him.

70. Thanks so much for posting this, Klimmer....
...I just never get tired of seeing it, as sad as it makes me.

So many people in this thread have said what I feel: admiration for the man, hope in our "loyal opposition", deep grief about the travesty that's going to happen next week.

And one more: relief and a little bit of hope that at least diplomacy hasn't been abandoned! Kerry is helping keep hope alive that we'll still have some countries left willing to deal with us in a civil manner when our national nightmare is finally over. It's SO important to me that the ** administration is NOT the only face of American government ever seen abroad. They have to know we can do better!

73. bush
successfully stole the election AGAIN, he has little reason to be feeling "burned".

Kerry should be HERE having our backs like he said he would not trying to rack up points for 2008, doesn't he realize unless something is done they're gonna steal that one TOO?!!?

seems to be welcomed like a President SHOULD be, and is talking to the people the "president" should be. Yup, he's my President, too!
