Newspaper Ads to spread the word
After reading a thread here on DU a few days ago about how to
spread the word on election fraud I decided I'd to try some of
the ideas. One of the ideas that was brought up was to place an
Ad in the Thrifty Nickel classifieds. So today I went and placed
an Ad with them for the Nashville, TN edition. Only cost me $12.40
for 1 week. The Ad was 27 words (First 10 words free, after that
10cents a word, 1 URL link ($3.00) and I choose to place a box
around the Ad for an additional dollar or so.

Here is my Ad. I adapted this from a fellow DU'ers flyer.

Question The Election. Your Democracy depends on it!
Something went terribly wrong on Nov 2, 2004. Think
everything went 'perfectly' on Election day?

This version of the Ad cost $8.50 for one week.

You can place your Ad through Thrifty Nickel on-line here:

Maybe you can place an Ad in your local Newspaper paper also?

Have fun!

2. How awesome! So many people read those things!
They are free and they are everywhere! Great job!

Mr. Arnheim just reordered checks and added a "signature line" above where we sign. It says, "Votes for Open and Transparent Elections" It didn't cost us anything to add it on the checks.

I love things like this! We are getting the word out!

7. Yes!
Good question. The fellow that made the suggestion
had his Ad running in the paper for a while.

The website appears to be down right now...
http://www.thriftynickelads.com/
But when its back up do a search in the US classifieds
for "election" and you'll return his Ad which is in Texas.
Mine hasn't been added yet, but you will see his :)

21. Google AdWords can be very effective
You can pay no more than $1 a day, and you only pay when people click on your ad, and you select what search keywords you want it to appear under. I used it for a while to get hits to pages I put up at http://www.legjoints.com/AmericanElectionFraud and it seemd to work pretty well. And even if people don't click on your ad, just seeing the F word appear on the first page of Google when you've searched for "US election 2004" or "american presidential election" must have an effect - and if they don't click on your ad you don't pay anything.

See http://www.google.com/adwords.html for more info.

6. There's also the Penny Saver .....
Millions of Americans also look at this each week - delivered free to your mailbox:

http://www.pennysaver.com/

Also fairly cheap to place an ad. I would suggest we all do this -- great idea, and I really like the ad you placed!

9. Thank you...
Thank you but praise should go to DU users KaryninMiami and TexasLawyer.
They were the ones that created the flyer and had the Ad suggestion.

Here is the orginal thread.

Thanks for the pennysaver website. I looked for a phone number
on the website but didn't see one. Do you have contact
infomation on them? I can't seem to find them listed in the yellowpages.

8. Excellent idea!
Okay, there are about 63,000 registered users here, if everyone places an ad in a local paper. Hmmm....that might just start to spread the word.

Actually, I'm now finding many people willing to listen. They are upset about not finding WMD, or they couldn't believe Kerry lost the election. I'm finding they are starting to listen so maybe this could reach those people with doubts and questions.

10. I'm the person who posted about the Texas Thrifty Nickel ad
I'm also running one in the local alternative newspaper, The Houston Press.

My Thrifty Nickel ad was supposed to run both online AND in the paper version, since what I most want to do is reach out to people who aren't on the internet. I looked in the latest printed version to see if my ad was there and it WASN'T.

No one from the paper called me or refunded my massive outlay of money ($22 for four weeks!) so I'm going to call the local office on Tuesday to see what the problem is. Surely it isn't censorship! (I hope). But I do expect my ad to run in the next version.

I think my most effective outreach so far is to use abandoned or seldom-used news stands/kiosks for flyers, and to put 10-20 copies in grocery store free publications stands, next to the "apartment locator" and "sell your car" magazines.

Often the outdoor kiosks are facing traffic, so if the flyer has a bold headline, like "Bush Election Fraud," it grabs people's attention while they're waiting for a light. (There is usually a clip in the kiosk so that one copy can be on clear display).

For the grocery store flyers, just yesterday I went into a local Kroger's to shop. I put out a handful of my flyers in the news stands as I went in. When I came out about 20 minutes later, there were two people sitting there reading my flyer and I saw another couple of people out in the parking lot taking the flyer to their cars. If I hadn't been in a hurry I would have stayed and asked people what they thought about the election and the info in the flyer.

Trust me, people are interested in this stuff and they are hungry for information. It is really gratifying to be able to give it to them and to put them on the right path to getting more.

Get out there and let people know what's going on!!!

Oh, and p.s.: I'm a she, not a he.

13. This is the flyer I've been using

I like this flyer because it has an attention-getting headline and has pictures of people protesting. The protest placards are also attention-getting and give the person who picks up the flyer the sense that he/she is not alone in his/her deep suspicion that the election was rigged.

I did modify this flyer a little to get rid of some of the more idiosyncratic statements. I redacted the words on the left-hand side, the "NPR bites" picture, and the bottom paragraph (get fired up, and the MLK quote. The MLK quote is nice, but it isn't about election fraud and it makes the flyer too text-heavy IMO).

If you get rid of that extra text, then the flyer can be blown up slightly so that the headline and images can be bigger. I copy them out on bright paper so that they stand out even more. I put out about 500 just last night, along with putting up about 75 "Bush Cheated" signs. I've been pasting my signs over illegal signs that are already up. That way, the illegal act (putting up the sign) has already taken place. I'm just defacing an illegal sign. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Since it's a holiday, I don't have my secretary around to make a pdf of my flyer, but this is enough to go on, I think.

For library tables I use the much less flashy "20 Amazing Facts..." flyer that has made the rounds on DU. It's much less liable to be thrown away by a supervisor or a Bush-supporting library patron (in the event the latter would be in a library).

NOW..get out there everybody!

I don't know what illegal code means. Here's the main website, though. You can access the flyer from there.

18. That flyer is inaccurate.
Call me picky, but I like our facts to be unassailable.

The CEO's of two of the largest voting machine companies are NOT brothers.

That is an error.

This is true:

The president of Diebold's election division (not the entire company) was Bob Urosevich, until recently. (The head of the entire Diebold operation is Walden O'Dell, the guy who promised to deliver Ohio's electoral votes to Bush.)

A vice-president of ES&S is Todd Urosevich.

So, fitting all that in one line:

"A pair of brothers, until recently, held high-level positions at two of the largest voting machine companies (Diebold and ES&S)."

19. New copy available
I've made changes to the flyer. It now reads.
"A pair of brothers, until recently, held high-level positions at two of the largest voting machine companies (Diebold and ES&S)."
Thanks for the suggestion.

If anyone would like a copy of this updated flyer please
PM me.

If anyone has a website and would be willing to host
this update flyer please let me know.

17. Thanks for the flyer
First I want to say sorry for mistaking your gender.

Thanks for posting the website with the flyer you use.
It looks great and I've printed a bunch. Placing these
flyers in stands/kiosks is a great idea, there is always
an empty stand in grocery stores entrances.
