3. Gee, and they wonder why black people don't become....
Republicans more often.

Why are they having a fit over one day out of the year to celebrate someone who championed civil rights for people??

They've got all the other holidays to celebrate their heroes.

6. Gee...what a surprise
Freepers using this holiday to demean and smear a man who taught us all the meaning of the words courage, integrity and love. Color me shocked.

7. For Gosh's Sakes!
If more Americans knew his birthname was Michael, I just don't think they would want a holiday to honor him. Next these guys will expose King for calling his best friend Ralph Abernathy by his middle name, David. Then we'll be lost!

8. I don't need a reminder
that while all Republicans are not racists, nearly all racists are Republicans.

Pathetic waste of air at that site.

9. Looked for responses taking issue with ANYTHING in that post,
Hoping someone would say, "but civil rights at least are a good thing."

Somebody taking issue with the statement that an image of black children playing with white children was only a call for interbreeding between the races.

There was one or two. But most just agreed.

Jesus- Just give the guy his day. He did a lot of work to bring equality to a substantial portion of our population. How tacky is it to criticize him on his birthday?

It's crap like this that gets Republicans branded as racists all the time. Just give the guy his due, and get over it. It's really not a big deal.

Over 100,000 men and women currently in uniform in Iraq also display great physical courage every day, and the vast majority of them seek to defend, not to destroy America. And yet, to my knowledge, none of them has had a national holy day enacted by Congress in his honor.
By the same token, you could hardly find a scholar at Harvard whose works weren't plagiarized to some degree. Why is Mr. King to be singled out and pilloried?

There's something about a man with great physical courage and thus great integrity that inspires the enmity of lesser men: the green-eyed monster, I suppose. Mr. Stix doesn't have as much courage in his entire body as MLK had in one fingertip.

A Christian doesn't cast the first stone. Jesus said, there is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life for a friend. Until you have MLK's courage, you haven't the right to criticize his petty failings.
