Exit pollsters to release election report to media (but not to public)

Exit pollsters to release election report to media

By Mark Memmott, USA TODAY

This week, the firms that produced exit polls of voters last November will tell the news organizations that paid them what, if anything, they think went wrong.

The surveys of voters as they left polling places led to widespread speculation on Election Day that Sen. John Kerry was sweeping President Bush out of office. But whether voters will ever know what happened remains unclear.

Edie Emery, a spokeswoman for the six-member media consortium that paid for the exit polls, says representatives from ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, NBC and the Associated Press want to review the report before making any decisions about what to make public.

The behind-closed-doors delivery of the report could come as soon as today. Because the report's conclusions might not be made public, the report is unlikely to appease critics who say the six media companies have moved too slowly to release information collected in the exit polls and have said too little about possible problems with those surveys.

"It's amazing to me that there's even a possibility that the report won't be released to the public," says Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia. "There was a major national controversy involving the integrity of the news organizations and of the polling firms involved."

that even if the companies claim their exit poll data was incorrect in some way, it still does not take away from the fact of how many irregularities, anomalies in vote counts - voter suppression, the STAGED recount, all that Blackwell is hiding, etc., etc., .....because I am sure some little freeps will start running around here trying to tell us there was no fraud because the exit polls were wrong (wait, they already are!!!) :hi:

4.  We should launch an activist campaign to make the report public
immediately. Conyers' already requested it and was ignored because it belonged to the networks. Maybe we should all send messages to his committee so that he can get these records asap.

7. What a bunch of...
-snip-

Other rarely explained factors that can affect results include the order of the questions and the techniques used to divide a sample into groups such as "registered" and "likely" voters.

-snip-

They called it an "EXIT" poll. Am I confused?

8. Here's your smoking gun for media bias. They've been saying
there is nothing wrong for more than two months. And they didn't even have the data.

I agree. We should demand this information be released. Enough with the slimey paternalism already.

12. When released, this exit poll...
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 10:06 AM by euler
....will already be re-weighted to the actual vote count, so the percentages in it will closely match the percentages in the actual vote count. So, I doubt this report will contain what many in this forum hope to see.

It remains unclear whether the unweighted numbers will be released too.

13. According to MysteryPollster, the raw data will be released
soon:

"Raw data deposited with the Roper Center - Consistent with past practices, NEP has promised to make a copy of its raw data available to scholars at the Roper Center archives, only on a more accelerated timetable than usual (about three months)."

Since it has been almost three months since Nov 2, I guess the raw data is coming within a month.

14. No way they can suppress this..
Way too many folks of a liberal persuasion in the MSM.
I know the corporate money is conservative, but I have known way too many liberal reporters who would "leak" this in a heartbeat.
