Would a county election board allow a private citizen to do a recount? |
Not just one person, actually, but if say, 4 people, 2 from each major party were to ask (demand?) to have access to the ballots, is there any reasonable rationale to refuse? They would be out no monies (and if they wanted, the independent "recount committee" could compensate a civil service employee for a day or 2 of otherwise missed work) Our county uses Optical Scan machines (made by "Optek", not Diebold)...I would like to have an opportunity to verify, just for my own (what's left of) peace of mind. I'm ashamed to admit I don't know how the totals from these machines are transferred to whatever "master list" is maintained. I don't have the numbers handy, but did see the other day my mostly Democratic county (albeit in a very 'red' state) had more than twice as many for Chimp as for JK...and it's hard for me to believe - I searched pretty diligently over much of the county pre-11/2 and saw only 2 or 3 B* signs (and admittedly only a few JK ones, including the quite large one that some asshole stole from my yard on 11/1 despite my 3 large dogs...not sure how they pulled -that- off) :grr:

1. don't know about your state but in Nevada |
the Democratic State Party was asked to recount 5 counties, which is permissible, and the state dems refused to call for a recount.

2. You would probably have to wait until the ballots are |
certified. Call your county official.

OK, this may be crazy and who knows if we could ever pull it off, but what if we vote again. Not republicans, because they'd never go for this. But what if some smart web designer created a site where under each state, under each county, you could list your name as validation that you voted for Kerry. Of course we'd have to get the word our really well to put your name up there. And we'd have to figure out some way to avoid hacking. But I'm sure without even having everyone's vote we'd find out it was more than what the fraud elections showed. This could be our proof. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I don't know how else we're going to prove their fraud. Any thoughts?
