What this says about Government - Democrats & Republicans...

In New Mexico, the Democratic Administration of Gov. Bill Richardson has approved the clearing of all voting machines, which would destroy evidence of what happened on Election Day. more

1. It says the problem with the Democratic Party IS the Democratic Party.

2. There are only two political parties.
Obviously, both parties are going to have a very, very, very wide range of opinions and ideologies. I am angry that Cobb's website has the tenacity to protest Bush when all they did was steal votes away from Democrats. (While, obviously, it was not enough to swing the election, had we had ALL PROGRESSIVES united against Bush behind one candidate, we would have had the momentum to take Bush out of power.) People on this board need to be more realistic. Your local representative has a good chance of being ideoligically close to you, as those in your community are similar to you. (Many congresspeople get upwards of 90+ percentage points of the vote in urban, very liberal areas while RW nut jobs do the same in their district.)

But... but... there is a whole world beyond the upper west side just as I would say the same thing to someone in the conservative heartland. Stop dissing our Democratic Party with this nonsense about how it's problematic. Would any Democrat in the primaries appoint a RW justice who would go around banning gay rights and the right to choose?! It makes me sick to my stomach that not only Bush but Rummy and Cheney and Alberto are leading the nation. How refreshing would it be to have good guys in charge for a change. Would Spitzer say torture is OK? Would Biden neglect our troops and not quip at them when they are desperate for answers about their armor?
The election of 2000 should show you all... Any Dem is better than the GOP.

If you think our party is a problem and encourage others to vote for fringe candidates who will never win... we will neer get the good guys in office.

3. hey there, justy, I disagree
When Dems have competition of us fringers, they tend to turn out more, plus the whole community gets pulled to the left. Here in San Fran, we nearly got our Green elected (the other guy was Repub Lite). But the contest really got people off their remotes.

4. Since SF is mentioned, have a look at DiFi.
Believe me, there is value in a lot of what you said. It is a big country, and Dems should take care not to return poor treatment by RWers.

But...this is what I mean by a problem.

-snip-

Insiders told the Nelson Report that Zoellick decided to take the position on the assumption that he would be the logical choice for secretary of state if Rice left to return to academic life or run for the Senate next year against the Democratic incumbent, Dianne Feinstein, or if a Republican candidate wins the 2008 presidential election.

Of course, there's DiFi's hubby's $650MM contract in Afghanistan.
