CSPAN2 showing protests
I wish I could be there, but this is the next best thing. (And way better than watching the bouncing chimp head.)

1. Thanks for the heads up
Really great to see and hear this! Have they shown anything from the coronation protest in DC? I would love to have seen the TYBOB folks!

4. I just turned it on about 10 minutes ago
And it's been on this the whole time.

This is the protest in DC on the parade route. What does TYBOB stand for?

2. Never mind...thought that was from Chicago
Now I realize it is people from all over and they are just saying their hometowns.

Great nonetheless...I still want to see TYBOB

9. Cspan2 is covering the A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition protest area in DC.
You haven't seen TYBOB (Turn Your Back On Bush) yet because it hasn't happened yet. It will happen during the parade, which is scheduled to start at 2 PM EST... keep watching!

NGU!

6. Honestly, I'm astounded that this is getting full coverage
I didn't think there would be any protest coverage, and here it is, the sole programming on CSPAN2 during the inauguration.

As one woman said a few minutes a go, "This is the real America. Those people over there aren't the real America." (Pointing across the street to Bushies.)

Pissin' on Georgie's parade!

:headbang:

16. Frankly, I'm stunned as well
C-Span actually might be close to a real media outlet.

I like Becker's analogy about all the people who are working that took time off to be there vs. the plutocrats.

8. I just turned cspan2 on and am watching it now
and I couldn't help it but I burst into tears. This is such a f-in sad day! :( Anyone know approximately how many protesters there are?

On a side note, I took my son to school and an assistant there said to my son "Hey it's inauguration day!" #@*&! It took every bit of self control to not lash out and go off about *hitler to her. I have NO clue if she is a rethug but I don't want her influencing my son if so!

10. I let my 13-yr-old stay home with me today
I wasn't going to because I know he really just wants the day off for a day off, but I told him he can't play video games and has to watch the protests, and then has to go with me to an anti-inauguration rally this afternoon, and he agreed to my "terms." :)

And tomorrow I'll send him to school with a note saying, "Please excuse my son's absence yesterday; he was doing his patriotic duty and protesting our corrupt administration." (Or something like that.)

13. That sounds great!
I was so tempted to keep my son home! But he missed a couple of days already this month. There's a large rally this afternoon, and I would love to go, but my son has autism and I don't think it would work out very well. If only my dh would've taken a sick day off from work I could have gone. Meanwhile, it's driving me crazy that I can't be a part of the protest! :argh:

"We have a lot of issues with Bush...Bush hurts all of us!"

18. It's been on since about 9:30am this morning - sorry, it was
posted in General or General/Politics or something.

Knowing CSpan - maybe they'll repeat it - or at least the best speeches. They had Nick Berg's Dad up there and also LYndon Johnson's Atty General - speaking against Bush.

22. Hooray for CSPAN2 (and the protesters)
Pathetically, covering news that differs from what our "elected" officials want to hear has become a brave thing. CSPAN2 has done a marvelous job. I am so proud of them... and somewhat afraid that the good people who have stuck their necks out to report the protests will get screwed.

This sad state of affairs reminds me of the woman who did translation for the deaf in the Ukraine. During the Ukrainian election coverage, she didn't translate the official line but instead signed that it was all bullshit and the election had been stolen. That was a major act of courage.

Speaking the truth should never require courage. But when speaking the truth is most important, doing so requires the most courage.

23. They're speeding up the motorcade! Just when the protests were cranking!
And I noted Shrub wasn't waving to the crowds anymore from inside his NEW limo. Now that he's in "friendlier" territory, they've slowed down again.

Did you hear them chant, "Your daddy was a killer too."
