Talked to my State Senator tonight
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 10:08 PM by BeFree
Asked if she knew that soon she would be faced with making a decision on the type of voting machines used in our state.

"No, not really"

So I related how there are some bills coming forward that would help to point out the failures of the present day machines, and would have the backing of many computer experts to get rid of e-voting.

A stunned look.

Related how the machines in use could be hacked, and how votes were lost because of machine malfunctions.

"Yep, I've heard that" she says, "But no one is going back to counting all those paper ballots, but I think we do need a voter verified paper printout as a back-up."

Well, we are getting somewhere, I thought. So I launched into how I thought the recent elections had been stolen, and that she would have won by even more votes had it not been stolen. How the exit-polls showed it was stolen, that machines had serious problems, and that it all added up to clear case that the process was broken. That I was hoping she would examine all the evidence coming her way. She said she certainly would.

"Call me anytime"

Then later, at the same get together, met the first real live human being that agrees that the election was stolen! This after talking to probably at least 50 people about our ideas. Not that all 50 disagreed, but he was the first one that flat out agreed! All in all, a pretty good day.

1. My precinct usually has about 600 voters...
...with six election judges. How long would it take them to count 600 ballots. Sheesh! If Canada can hand count paper ballots in a day, so can we.

2. No, no, no!!! We do NOT need voter verified paper printouts!
Oh, good golly. I am going to have a heart attack.

First off, :yourock: for posting this and for talking to your Senator.

:)

Next, we cannot settle for a printout. A printout will just spit out a report from the database. If the database was hacked, then the printout will simply print out the hacked data.

We need to have verifiable paper ballots that can be matched up to the machine counts if needed.

Paper ballots. Voters cast their votes on the machine and the machine tallies their vote but creates a paper ballot as well.

Just curious - what state are you in?

BTW, I wasn't fussing at you. I was just startled and a bit scared there for a moment.

15. Which counties in Oregon hand count ballots?
As far as I know most use some type of optical scan device to count votes and ballots are never hand counted.

4. Easy there, arnheim, sorry to have startled you
It was more than I expected. Of course I tried to make the case that hand counted ballots were the American way for 200 years, and that it was important, in light of the facts, to get this right. That the vote was the most important of transactions and if it took awhile longer to get it right, then it was worth it.

I think she will look at all the facts, and she will remember our conversation. It was the best I could do at the time.

5. Yes Yes Yes! Voter-Verified Paper BALLOTS only!
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 10:28 PM by demodonkey
Whether they come out of the machine, or (better) are just hand-marked and hand-counted paper, they must be BALLOTS!

Only a BALLOT has legal standing.

Only a BALLOT can be counted or re-counted.

Go to http://www.votersunite.org
Get the "Myth Breakers" document and share with all public officials you can!

On Edit: PS -- I am a pollworker and I WILL GLADLY stay as long as it takes at the end of the day to count those paper ballots.

14. I'm continually surprised at how many people still do NOT know
that investigations are still ongoing, or that they're so wide-spread, or well-documented. I informed two people yesterday who had no idea. One was so grateful, said I "made her day"..."now there was still hope."

And even though some may "suspect" something, most have given up hope because MSM has told them too...told them it's all "conspiracy theory."

That's why we have to keep reaching out, and teaching what we've learned.
