Reports on un-Inauguration protests in other cities
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 11:55 AM by Fly by night
I started this thread to allow folks who didn't make it to DC to protest, but who did speak out in their own cities and towns, to post a report on how things went in your area.

Here in middle Tennessee, it was all good. We drew a crowd approaching 100 for our rally in front of the Federal Building, which is on one of the busiest streets in downtown Nashville. We stayed there for 2 1/2 hours, and our signs, banners, candles, drums, penny-whistles and voices were seen and heard far-and-wide. For the first time, we drew all four Nashville TV stations (including our Faux affiliate), and they came early and stayed late. We were among the lead stories on all the stations on their early afternoon news and two stations (ABC and NBC) stayed to make us their opening story on the 6:00 pm news -- broadcasting live as our candles, our posters and our "Bush Lost" banner filled their screens. We also were re-broadcast on their 10:00 pm news shows.

We got a steady stream of support from the commuters -- lots of "thumbs up" and horn-honking. We also got the occasional "Four more years" from a few drive-by smirking chimp-lovers, but our response to them -- "25 years to life!!" -- shut them up pretty quick. It may just be my imagination but during the 6:00 pm live TV feeds, the amount of horn-honking from the passers-by went up dramatically so the TV audience could hear that it wasn't just us -- that, indeed, many commuters also supported our positions.

We heard from anti-war, fair election and pro-health care speakers as well as from veterans. We heard from Democrats, Greens, Constitutionalists and (yes) even Republicans who agree that an un-American coup committed in their names should not be allowed to stand. We talked with the Nashville city police, Homeland Security spooks and Federal Building guards -- and they were all appreciative of our demeanor.

Even Mother Nature obliged -- it was the most beautiful afternoon we've had in weeks. After we extinguished our candles and policed the area to make it cleaner than when we arrived, we all went home feeling satisfied. And resolving to meet again in nine days to keep working together to take our country back. In Music City, in the Orange State, January 20 was all good. How was it in your neck of the woods?

3. I reported elsewhere, but
Anchorage had a nice little demonstration last night, between 50-75 hardy souls on a busy street corner between 4:00 and 6:00. We got lots of support from the commuters, a few curses and middle fingers, but many more thumbs up. I read in the paper this morning that about 250 showed up in Homer to protest, and there was also a demonstration in Fairbanks.

10. Great pics! But NONE of the L.A. Protest?!
There was 1,000-2,000 in W.LA rally. Lasted about 4 hours. Lots of speakers. Great reaction from traffic passing by (about 70% positive response rate). Very positive experience!

6. Here's our 'one neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago' rally
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 06:27 PM by GettysbergII
In was small but spirited with lots of passing cars beeping and signaling their solidarity. Very, very little negative responses from passersby, in fact I can't recall even one.

Here's a link to some pics of the rally.

9. here's the Nashville 1/20 protest rally , in text and pictures....
... thanks to Chris Lugo and the Tennessee Independent Media Center.
They have covered almost every one of our rallies so far.

There's also a related story at this link on a Knoxville protest rally also. Enjoy.

It was a great day!! 2000-3000 people. We spread out for 7 blocks during the march. Passed a few Bushies who started yelling "four more years" (they didn't have much feeling behind it tho) so we drowned them out yelling "Four more WARS" LOL.

and shut downtown down for a few hours. I saw that San Fransisco had an ENORMOUS protest, one of the biggest I'd ever seen, but I haven't heard much about it.
