Recap of my experiences on January 20th - more in detail
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 08:02 PM by Faye
oh man. i have to tell you guys some of this shit. the first sign i saw walking into the crowd was a Free Republic sign. :puke: when i saw it i yelled PUKE! lol

once we got to the parade, we all kind of separated and i ended up stopping to stay in this one place by myself where there were protesters. somehow some Bush supporters got mingled in with us, and two of them were young guys about my age or younger - the one looked just like Joe Scarborough but about 20 years younger (does Joe have a son? if so it was prob. him!!)
Anyway, they kept trying to start arguments with the protesters, trying to get them to get mad - they just wouldn't stop, then some lady in front of me told all the protesters to stop listening to them because she thought they were 'plants' sent there to incite violence. to be honest i think they were too. so one of them was arguing with this other girl about the Iraq war, and i got so annoyed i told him 'don't you want to watch your Presidents parade? your President's coming, quit arguing with people!' then he told me i was rude :( then that one lady kept shouting that he was a plant, so he kept saying really loud 'oh yeah guys, i'm a plant. uh huh ok, blah blah, just kept saying it over and over, he said "SO, THESE GUYS HAVE DECIDED THAT I'M A PLANT". and i said 'NO, we decided you are an idiot'. then ppl started laughing and he finally STFU and didn't argue anymore. w00t! lol

Then there was this girl with her Dad (she was about 20) - i knew just looking at them they were there for Bush. After the parade started, and all the protesters started chanting, etc - she threw a tantrum and started flipping out, almost crying, and told her dad she wanted to leave and she's like "if they hate him so much then why are they here!!!!!" then her dad walked off with her - not sure where she went, but he came back by himself.

A girl next to me had a "Boxer for President" sign, and that same guy (the girl's dad) said real loud, 'shes the worst Senator this country ever had!!!' :puke: :eyes:

so then the motorcade started coming - i turned my back for a second or two then i was like scew that - i want to look right at them and tell them how i feel. haha, so just turned back around and looked right into all the windows as they went by and just went BOO BOO BOO with my thumbs down. lol i prob. looked like a retard but goddamn it felt good!!

i didn't stay much longer after that. i met back up with the people i went with (danostuporstar and three ladies from Oregon). instead of going back home with them, i got off the metro in Chinatown and met up with DU'ers and some other VERY interesting people. I drank so freaking much....what the hell was i thinking....i was so drunk, but so tired at the same time from walking around all day - man, and in the end, i didn't even have to pay for it :o A very generous person we all know took care of everyone ;). Then, to top it off, we went over to the Billionaires for Bush Counter-Inaugural and drank some more - i wanted to dance but i was so damn tired, and i think i kept singing all the wrong words to this one song and i felt like an idiot :eyes:

Mr. Scorpio and EstimatedProphet walked with me back to the Metro Station (if they didn't i would have ended up LOST!) - i got back to Dan's safe and passed out as soon as i walked in the door.

11. Interesting recap.....
But how did you end up at the repug's bash?
It must have been scarier than anything else?
Just a few questions if you're up for them, if not just ignore them.
No bad!
Did you see the 'burning of the coffin'?
I watched a couple of hours of Cspan 2 and noticed a few repugs caught up in the crowd, one blonde woman in a fur coat looked totally freaked out, and it looked like there might have been somekind of tussle around that time, but then they got through.
I know there were so many protesters, that you could have been anywhere. Most that weren't televised- I heard today, also that protesters outnumbered the * lovers.
That cheered me up a little.
Did you realize that at the time?
Thanks

15. i didn't go to any repugs bash
Billionaires for Bush is anti-Bush. it was a COUNTER-inaugural party.

i didn't know anything about the coffin. i do think there were more protesters than Bush supporters.

20. Oops, Sorry. Wrong party's party.
Billionaires for Bush was a COUNTER-Inaugural??

Damn, I made the same mistake as Catamount.

I wonder how many Republicans went to that one to rub some elbows only to realize where they were and quietly walk out embarassed.

9. Hey, Faye, sounds like you had a good time.
We had a GREAT time here in San Francisco. The place was MOBBED.

But, what I wanted to tell you is, watching the DC protest was really funny because at one point, I saw cops three deep watching the bleachers.

Which meant all three rows turned their backs to youknowwho when the motortcade went by. Hilarious.

17. Yeah! And watching cops whose job it was to work the protest,
I bet at LEAST half of them were on our side.

After all, they all knew that the Bush Mafia had demanded that DC spend Homeland Security dollars working security for an obscene party.

Those guys have families, mortgages, health needs AND know that their department is underprepared.

21. Thanks, Faye!
I assume you were standing in the protestors' zone when the 20-year-old whined about you all being there. I wish you had pointed that out to her & asked her why she chose that area to watch the circus parade. I guess Daddy must have chosen not to leave the area because he enjoyed the frictional atmosphere.

Btw, I appreciate the effort you took to get to Washington, despite the reservations you had about your car. I appreciate all the protestors' tenacity in showing WhatsHisFace that he does not have the mandate he so arrogantly crowed about.

Thank you for posting more about your experience. From the look of pictures that I've been seeing, * doesn't have a mandate to stand on! LOL!

And Crashcart's car getting snowballed?!? Priceless! Did you get to see that happen?

30. You are a true Democrat
Wow its sounds like you had fun. I defiantly want to go to the next one in 2008. It will be my first year ill be able to vote and I hop to not be the protester at the next one, I hope to be the supporter of President Kerry! I have always wanted to go to DC, it just reminds me that my mom and dad told me before th last election when we were at the Kerry rally together that if Kerry was elected they would make sure I would be at his Inauguration.

Well I wasn't, but I have a feeling I will be in four years.Though I'll only be 18 so it'll be new for me.I wanna go into Politics when I get older though so it'll be a learning experience. You sound like you had alot of fun though-Thank-You for representing us.

Thanks for sharing your a true Dem
