"Paint it Blackwell" -- the spin about the Electoral Challenge on the 6th
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 01:00 AM by KaliTracy
"In case you were wondering why Democrat leaders have been so intent on challenging Ohio’s election results... This article from National Review Online may give you some insights"

Posted January 10th

"Paint It Blackwell
"What Thursday’s insanity was really about.
Unlike the Jesse Jackson-led Democratic convulsions after the 2000 election was settled, Thursday`s shenanigans on the House floor were not primarily an effort to delegitimize George W. Bush`s presidency.

"The number-one target of the protest of Ohio`s vote was the most promising African-American Republican politician in the country: Ohio secretary of state Kenneth Blackwell. A word count of the Congressional Record makes the case clearly: George Bush`s name was mentioned 109 times during the debate, while Ken Blackwell`s was mentioned 149.

"When you take into account that many of the Bush mentions were made by Republicans, and that every mention of Blackwell was in a statement by a Democrat, it is clear who the real target of Thursday`s proceedings was. "

1. Wow, right on his cover page too! They must be getting into
a panic that his shenanigans with the votes will be uncovered. Go Ohio! You can run, Mr. Blackwell, but if you're guilty of fraud, you will be found out!

2. Right! Bully tactic number 1:
accuse the opposition of what you are doing: racism.

How clever of Rove to have picked people of color...although Conyers is onto that.

3. Now....
Apparently some of these assholes have been buying the National review in Bulk because it made it's way into the Barnes and Noble top ten in the current events category. The same way these same assholes buy their Neocon boooks in bulk so it'll make the bestseller list. I know this cause I'm the magazine guy and this week I had to display TNR in the front although it is still surrounded buy Harpers, Atlantic, and The New Yorker.

4. The bully always goes on the offensive by deflecting the issue.
If you can't or won't answer a question, the first line of attack in debate form is to accuse someone of "impuning integrity"...Condiliar just used it last week! Rove's bag of tricks must be close to empty by now! LOOK AT ME... I'M A VICTIM! I'M A VICTIM! BLAH! BLAH! BLAH!

8. Yup, make it all about personalities
rather than respond to the facts.

5. Funny, too.
He says the Democrats uttered Blackwell's name 149 times, but never mentions why.

6. "shenanigan" is the new Rove dis-info "buzzword"?
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 03:45 AM by tommcintyre
Noun: shenanigan shu'nanigun

1. Reckless or malicious behaviour that causes discomfort or annoyance in others
- mischief , mischief-making , mischievousness , deviltry , devilry , devilment , rascality , roguery , roguishness

Not a very "serious" word, eh?

Not so coincidentally (I believe) this word was used repeatedly by Cokie Roberts (and company) in the unprecedented thinly veiled Nightline anti-election fraud "infomercial" last Wednesday. Being tuned into semantics, it caught my attention immediately as an "inappropriate" description of past election/vote fraud (which was clearly being discussed/linked in an attempt to minimize the seriousness of the current election fraud).

Now (again) not so coincidentally, it "pops up" in this article? Hmmm... Are we seeing a pattern here?

Please PM me any other similar articles using this word you run into. I'm writing an analysis of the possible motivation, strategy, implications, etc. of the Nightline show. Thanks

"With no black Republicans in the House, Senate, or any governorships..."

I do love this part:

"After Thursday`s debates and the protests Ohio Democrats have raised since the election, once Blackwell`s name is mentioned on the national stage again, every major newspaper reporter will reflexively call him a "controversial figure" who is "at the heart of the much-criticized 2004 election in Ohio."

YESSS!!!!

Edited to add: "If you lined up every elected Republican in Washington and all the governors, you would be looking at over 300 white faces."

How 'bout that?
