Lawmaker's Democratic Son Charged in Tire-Slashing during Election
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 04:50 PM by BigBearJohn
Oh great, the MSM will not cover crimes against Democrats but let
one crime occur against the GOP and they jump right on it!

MILWAUKEE - The sons of a first-term congresswoman and Milwaukee's former acting mayor were among five Democratic activists charged Monday with slashing the tires of vans rented by Republicans to drive voters and monitors to the polls on Election Day.

Sowande Omokunde, son of Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., and Michael Pratt, the son of former Milwaukee acting mayor Marvin Pratt, were among those charged with criminal damage to property, a felony that carries a maximum punishment of 3 1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The activists are accused of flattening the tires on 25 vehicles rented by the state Republican Party to get out the vote and deliver poll watchers Nov. 2.

Also charged were Lewis Caldwell and Lavelle Mohammad, both from Milwaukee, and Justin Howell of Racine.

1. Charged and Indited are two different things.
I wonder if they'll follow up with the truth later.

Almost never happens...

2. It may not seem fair
but I'd jump on these idiots, too. We don't need to look like the thugs and we need to loudly denounce those who do such things.

Mainly because the repugs won't when it's one of theirs.

4. Agreed, breaking the law to suppress vote is illegal and wrong
regardless of who is behind it

3. What the hell....
I remember this story floating around election day, but the vans were Dem vans that had tires slashed in Wisconsin. Does anyone remember this?! If this is the same case, how THE HELL do we go from Dem vans to Repuke vans? Election wasn't enough, they have to flip the law breaking results as well?!

9. Maybe I am wrong
Or, remembering it wrong. That's two quick responses going against the flow of what I remember happening. And I do not specifically remember the thread, so could have 'assumed' it to be Rep vans and moved on. Ouch! Can I delete a post(!) Oh well, honest mistake if indeed it was. And fooey on anyone slashing tires for any reason.

8. COOL!
Maybe the FBI will find the time to investigate Triad's unannounced and unwitnessed "repairs" AND the break-in at the Democratic headquarters AND the false homeland security warning forced lock-down
AND the Republican paid for motel room as the operation base for misinformation to many Democratic voters! They should have free time to investigate these things now right?

11. Oh, no sir!
You are a dreamer, I'll give you that! As for me, I'm not holding my breath - but do assume the full research force of the US Gov will go into the Van/Tire crime of the century.

12. Republicans have been livid that the charges took so long
The District Attorney (a Democrat, by the way) has taken a lot of heat because the charge is just now being made. He says it is because the FBI was doing the investigation:

He said the FBI reports only got back to his office Jan. 14 because the slashings, though locally controversial, probably weren't the highest priority for federal investigators more concerned with terrorism threats.

"You've got to understand how this looks elsewhere," McCann said. "It's a tire-slashing case. ... I never got a call from (Attorney General John) Ashcroft about the case."

I'd also point out that Gwen Moore went to court with her son, unlike another politician who couldn't find time to be with his daughter when she faced drug charges in a Florida court. I really feel bad for Gwen. She doesn't need this.

10. I thought this was old news???
I seem to rememeber hearing who was accused of doing that a long time ago. But yes, hopefully the FBI will care about ALL crimes now.
