Need List of Dem Senators Who Supported Boxer Today
I don't want to miss any:

Dayton, Kennedy, Bayh, Byrd, Durbin.

Of course I haven't forgotten Feinstein.

Anyone else, of either party who did good?

Oh Salazar deserves a special note.

(It is too hard to go searching for this info on the other forums to which it was moved.)

12. I'm about to write in the Admin. Forum that we need to keep our
action threads here. Every dialogue with all the Senators is vital to our relationship with them about the vote. We are gaining confidence and momentum by watching them all during this amazing time. I find it a hindrance to have to go searching all over the place for what belongs here.

"My vote against this nomination is my statement that this administration's lying must stop now. I urge my colleagues to join me in this demand, Democrats, Republicans, independents; we are all, all of us, first and foremost Americans. We must be told the truth, if we're to govern our country and to preserve our world, and that's why we must vote against this nomination."

44. I think Dayton's was the best speech by far today.
Clearly a lot of thought, and courage in a lot of his statements.

I think he and people like Reed (R.I.) are getting their courage because of Boxer, and Conyers, and our email revolution!

I wrote Dayton, and Reed, and Durbin to thank them. I should also write Byrd. He was so cute...searching in all his pockets for that little copy of the Constitution he carries.

40. Maybe it is putting a toe in the water...
Boxer had to do it first, then Kerry, now others are starting to see that demonstrating courage and integrity is actually kinda cool.

That's why I think that keeping involved and actively participating in every important contest that comes up--even if it seems unrelated--is very important for election fraud and reform.

We are helping to empower our elected reprentatives to show some courage, integrity, and true patriotism for a change. After being beaten down, they probably really welcome it. And the funny thing is, is how fuddy-duddy and patently wrong the Republicans look side-by-side as they oppose them.

And this time, most of them who spoke against ARE voting against! So that's already some progress.

all this toe in the water stuff. It should be so obvous that Rice does not deserve a promotion, or even a job at all.

toe in the water implies fear. what are they afraid of?

did you listen to the Seymour Hersh speech on Democracy Now about the government being taken over by a cult?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x305443

He says that it's not a matter of lacking integrity that keeps everyone silent, but fear. I also wondered just what they were afraid of.

Ridicule? Ruin? Cults have immense power to destroy individuals from the inside out.

The Republicans who spoke were all fillers, filling the time and the air with BS. One was quite vicious in his attacks on Boxer--bastard--said that with her asking people to support her in stading up against Rice there was a button for donations.

49. Strangely enough...
I did feel the speech Frist gave today was humble.
I expected him to dismiss objection, instead he kinda
stumbled in his message. Sort of like he was afraid to
say what he'd hoped to say. His speech was only a minute
long and he wasn't present during the debating sessions
he walked in at the last minute to talk.

Last night his voice mail was full, so I faxed him.
I hope he heard from people who wanted him to vote
against Dr. Rice.

Frist did sink in a questionable remark but he didn't
say anything that was very powerful.
I'm rethinking my humble comment I made of him, Frist
just seemed to be careful choosing his words and not
making much sense.

I think he might not have had time to prepare a speech
since he was out, but then again he should be great at
ad libbing.

50. For anyone who needs to know, here's the list...
Voted against Condoleeza Rice:

Boxer
Kennedy
Levin
Byrd
Kerry
Reed (RI)
Durbin
Dayton
Abaka
Bayh
Jeffords (Independent)

Harry Reid (new minority leader) strongly defended these Senators' right to dissent, and Joe Biden strongly defended the truth of what they had to say about Rice--though both ended up voting for her. (This happened today along with the vote, 1/26. Most of the speeches were yesterday, 1/25.)

Kennedy, Byrd, Dayton and Boxer gave particularly good speeches. Dayton was fabulous! (Actually, they were all fabulous, but Dayton was more fabulous!).

Levin, Reed, Durbin and Bayh also gave good speeches. I don't think Abaka or Jeffords spoke.

---

Note to moderators: This post is a good example of what went wrong yesterday, with your moving our post on the Condi Rice nomination right in the middle of the Senate debate. I was posting live reports of the speeches there, so were others--then a bunch of people couldn't find the post! And all these people were left wondering who said what, and who was voting which way.

A sad mistake. I hope you'll be more careful in the future. I don't mind necessary re-organization and management. But please be more sensitive to what's happening in the post at the time that you do something to it. Also, sometimes people who raise a big stink about something--like re-naming the forum, or excluding all issues but election reform--have nothing better to do than diatribe on these petty matters. Please be aware of that.

I was handicapped in joining in on the discussion of the focus of the Election Forum because I WAS SO BUSY trying to support Barabara Boxer, the key to election reform in the Senate! Think of the irony!

55. Sending letters of thanks but first...
This letter to my own Senator Feinstein:

Dear Senator:

I am puzzled by your vote to confirm Dr. Rice to a position she clearly has no qualifications to hold. I am further dismayed at your personal statements of support for a person who has lied openly to me and the rest of the American people about matters of greatest import to us all. Are you planning to switch parties? I can only offer this possibility for what is clearly the most Republican-like performance I've seen from a purportedly Democratic Senator in a long while - Zell Miller notwithstanding. Please remember those you represent and rejoin the party of the common citizen in fighting the most mendacious and dangerous administration in recent memory.

Sincerely,
Daniel Koenig
