NH Voting System Question |
|
I was reviewing a story at RAW regarding the exit poll data from NH and NY. It stated that both states use paper ballots. I live (and vote) in Peterborough, NH
Question: Although the optical ballot I filled out was on paper, it was scanned by a machine and the votes stored. Were these transfered by modem or means at risk of manipulation (and so Fraud)? Or is this considered "safe" voting from the "evote vs paper" debate standpoint?

1. Anything hooked to a modem can be hacked. The vote counting software |
|
can be crooked too. That is the problem with BBV and secret source code

2. hey I live in Peterborough |

myself, bet we know each other!!... in any event regarding your question I have heard that the scanning software itself is vulnerable (heard about a ballot question in Montana where they had a problem with their scanning).

Hi Francesca. I bet we do know each other...
What I was wondering is: Bev Harris showed how some DieBold system could be hacked because the central tally computer is off site and the database can be chaged that way. Is this the system Peterborough uses or is ours more secure? I just don't know which system it is.

7. Concern is from rawstory item |
|
The lead story now at www.rawstory.com is using data from NH and NY states to make a comparasion of paper ballot vs evoting states. I think that even though we (Peterborough, anyway) voted on paper (optical scan, though), it may still be just as open to fraud, and may even be the "fraud of choice" system (DieBold optical scan Accuvote).

NH as a whole is interesting in terms of the greater Fraud picture as the amount of deviation between exit poll predictions and the final outcome was rather large... I was rather stunned with the final results expecting us to come out strongly for Kerry based not so much even on exit polls but rather polls from the previous week (Franklin Pierce had Kerry with an 11% lead the week prior). Obviously something happened here.....
