Our THANK YOU list. Start licking those stamps, kids!!
I can't stress enough how important it is that these fine folks are shown they have supporters all over the country who are deeply appreciative of their vote against Dr. Rice.

Also, please stress the need for verifiable paper ballots! Now that they have the stones to stand up and fight, let's give them something else to fight for.

Does that serve a purpose or are you just trying to start a flame war?

I was just putting my wishful thinking into print. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone.

on edit: What's a flame war?

9. No, you didn't say anything wrong, it was my mistake not to
include the phrase <sarcasm> after my post. So sorry about that. I love your wishful thinking. I believe he is president and the snots stole it.

Flame war is when folks start posting nasty posts and attacking one another and "flaming" each other. Don't worry - your post is great, the information you have provided will be very helpful to many of us and John Kerry is the President!

Welcome to DU! :hi: and again, forgive my failure to let you know I was being sarcastic! Your post is great!

4. I will also be thanking ones who conducted themselves
honorably, even if they voted no.

On this list, I have

Lugar (he could have been a real prick, but was actually pretty decent)
Biden - for sticking with the truth of Condi's lies, and supporting the right to debate, and Boxer
Salazar - for bringing up serious criticisms of Iraq
Reid - for protecting Boxer and other Dems, and showing some fortitude

I figure the more connections we make the better,
in our work with election fraud.

And I will fax them all, including all of their offices. These numbers are always easy to find at:
http://www.vote-smart.org/

just enter the name in the top left corner and the info for all offices is there.

33. Good of you to point this out, Ojai Person!
I particularly noticed Harry Reid (new minority leader) get up at the end and defend Boxer and the others from Puke attacks re: partisanship, even though he ended up voting yes.

Legislative work isn't always just about votes.

(Pro-war) Biden ALSO defended them--though he did so on the grounds that "we all support the Iraq war here." I didn't like how he put it. But at least he defended them--and also defended the truth of what they said.

In addition to HEARING THE TRUTH SPOKEN ON THE FLOOR OF THE U.S. SENATE--an amazing thing in itself--who knows? , this action by Boxer and the Heroic 13 could prevent invasion of Iran.

There is now a TRUTH STANDARD to which Rice will be held. Dems not likely to get sucked in again by WMD-type lies.

What if all this had not been spoken?

And Boxer sure seemed grateful to Lugar for his fairness in committee. Maybe all this gives the more sensible Republicans a bit of a stick to hold over Bush and BushCons.

23. I always just enter the zip of their district as shown
in their local office address.

Then I say that the matter I am writing about is of national importance.

34. Here's another trick...
Put your real address on the address line, whatever their form says about state and zip, or put it in the body of your message.

Then, if you wish, give a brief sentence at the beginning about why you're writing from another state.

If I have friends or relatives in their state, or any history with that state (like, went to college there), I mention that. (i.e., "Although I now live in New York, I spent four years earning my B.A. at the U. of Hawaii, and still have many friends there. I want to speak to you about an issue of national importance...").

That way, they know you have word of mouth power in their state (if you do).

It's probably best to do a fax. There is the physical presence of a letter, usually indicating you took a lot of trouble. It may not get sorted out so quickly into consituents and non-constituents.

Snail mail is useless these days, if the matter is timely. Almost all of the gov't sites warn of delays of 2 weeks and more, due to anthrax scare.

In my experience, it's mostly the Republican sites that limit citizen in-put, and they do it in various ways--including this hard form with state and zip trying to limit in-put to state voters. I didn't find much of a problem on the Democratic sites.

12. My email to each of them:
Dear Senator _____________,

Thank you for your patriotic leadership in voting against Ms Rice. She represents an administration that lied to the American public, lied to the 107th and 108th US Congress, continued to lie during her hearings and is responsible for the tragic deaths of our fellow citizens and countless innocent Iraqi citizens (and others).

Our Nation is now branded as an aggressor, an occupier, an imperialistic regime, a supporter of torture and all because of Mr Bush, Ms Rice, Mr Gonzales, Mr Cheney and the other members of the Bush theocratic, neocon cabal.

We will spend decades trying to re-establish the legitimacy of America. Your vote against Ms Rice (and, hopefully, against Mr Gonzales) is an essential step in beginning to take back America from the Bush cabal.

You should also inform every Democrat and Republican US Senator who voted for Ms Rice (and Mr Gonzales) that they discredit themself considerably in doing so, and "We The People" will not forget.

Thank you,
xxxxxxxxxxx

Just got back from lunch with a working cohort who had Bill O'Liely on the AM (he was driving, not my choice, believe me). Loofah man was basically decrying all the Dems who stood up (especially Dayton who used the LIER word), and ask his listeners to write or email them to ask if they have any proof that Rice lied (he said he seen nothing to suggest that she lied about the reasons for going to war).

We'd better let our appreciation to these great Senators be known because I'm sure there going to get their share of hate mail.

31. Here's the whole list of Dems, with state offices contact info.:
State offices info. is helpful if DC lines are jambed.

After you thank the HEROIC 13, you can give the others a piece of your mind, and tell them they can SOMEWHAT redeem themselves by voting against putting the torture-memo attorney (Alberto Gonzales) in charge of domestic law enforcement. (The A.G. is also vital to enforcement of Voting Rights Act violations!)
