"I think that democracy is at stake" -- words from a Texas patriot!!
"I think that democracy is at stake," said the 62-year-old DA Ronnie Earle, who has been D.A. since 1977.

"The issue is whether large corporate interests can buy more democracy. If large monied interests can control elections, then the principle of `one person, one vote' is meaningless."

So, my fellow election fraud-busters, reformists and advocates, take heart; DA Earle certainly "Believes"!!

Be proud and give DA Earle a call and offer your support!

Texas DA Takes on Delay in Campaign Probe

Published: January 26, 2005

Filed at 3:27 p.m. ET

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- After years of going after some of the biggest names in Texas politics, District Attorney Ronnie Earle reckoned 2004 would be the year he would retire.

Then Earle found himself in charge of a campaign-finance investigation that has set off tremors from Austin to Washington. Calling it the most important investigation of his nearly 30-year career as D.A., the Democrat decided to stay on, and got himself re-elected in November to another four-year term. That, of course, may have set off even more tremors.

I find it interesting that the Texas legislature is Republican, but this (apparently) Austin-based DA is elected. Austin is pretty progressive compared to the rest of Texas, so I guess that explains it. I live in Houston, and we are definitely trying our best to get others to see the light!

Update: here is a link to an article on Earle in the current Feb 2005 issue of Texas Monthly. more interesting insight:

6. Glad we're getting back to business
Thanks for the post! This is off-topic but I wanted to say I'm happy to see everyone at DU coming together again. I've been lurking at DU and other sites these last few months so I could join in the email, fax, phone and petition campaigns. After the inauguration I felt we had lost momentum but now it's all back and we are moving as one.

Keep dividing the neocons from their party and the people will divorce the neocon cabal of corruption enmasse. Standing alone in their sea of hate and hypocrisy, the remaining will swiftly fall. And no fate will be too horrible for the genocidal fascist family fellowship!

7. thanks for the story
don't we need more DA's like Earle? We might be able to root out some of the corruption that's undermining this country. Another hero in my book. "Democracy is at stake."

Yep.

10. Deny Delay!
This was our slogan during the re-redistricting fights here in Austin. Ronnie Earle's investigations were the one bright spot we kept focused on as it looked like we were getting shafted.
