SANTA FE — Requiring voters to show identification at polling places can help restore public confidence in the election system, U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce told lawmakers Monday.

Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson has said he's willing to work with Republicans and Democrats on a voter ID provision, but so far he hasn't backed any specific legislation.
