NVRI--Still pressing Fed. court for new recount in Ohio..
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 06:56 PM by elizm
Sorry if this is a dupe...But I got this email from National Voting Rights Institute this afternoon.

NVRI E-News Update - January 26, 2005
Why the Recount Still Matters

The Presidential inauguration is now a week behind us, and it may seem like the Ohio recount is now irrelevant. But it most certainly is not. The recount revealed -- once again -- the deep flaws in the American system of voting. NVRI and its clients -- David Cobb and Michael Badnarik -- continue to press the federal courts for a new recount -- to force the state to use consistent standards in obtaining an accurate vote. Those standards should serve as a model for the entire country as we try and move toward a reliable democratic infrastructure. Click here to read more about Why the Recount Still Matters. And stay tuned for more information from NVRI about future actions to fix U.S. democracy.

Best Regards,
Stu

1. That's the federal suit that Kerry/Edwards joined.
I keep telling folks it is still pending. They have asked that the equipment be seized and independently tested in the 41 triad counties and that triad officials be deposed.

The fight continues, but I guess if you don't blow horns and announce it every day, so folks doubt it.

3. They haven't given up, it is just that litigation can take so damned
long and you cannot rush a judge to make a judgment!

Thanks for the post and a belated welcome to DU! :hi:

5. Good news, would be nice if someone could bring us up to speed regarding...
... exactly who is doing what at the ground in Ohio at the moment regarding ""recounts"" - double quote - (including I hope serious investigations of provisional ballots, voter rolls, absentee ballots, interviewing real disenfranchised voters and so on). The last update on Ohio on votecobb.org (main resource on Ohio recount) dates back to 30 December, as far as I could find. If a serious effort would be underway we (at least I) would support it financially, but we need to get some serious information whether anything of practical importance is actually happening.

6. David Cobb said at the PDA Conference this past weekend that...
even if Kerry had won, if there still had been all the disenfranchisement, long lines, voter harassment, registration tampering, (etc - all the crap that is wrong in the voting process) HE STILL WOULD HAVE DEMANDED THE RECOUNT!

It matters, guys.

8. OHio recount is important - North Carolina wants to borrow their 3%
standard - and thanks to the WAY the recount was done, we know that a crock....
