This is what is called a smear campaign
Folks, as soon as Kevin Shelley decertified Diebold, the attack began.

This is today's SF Chronicle's account (and they've been leading the parade:

Okay. That's the MSM hype. If you EVER want anyone to stand up to the Republican machines AGAIN, PLEASE call Shelley office in support:

3. RE: the SF Chronicle

I've found them to be very selective. They are NOT partisan by any means. Notice: their silence on the vote fraud even though they were being fed info. The news side of the paper is not the same as the editorial side.

I've had 8 letters published in 12 months. And have noticed the news side of the paper is fairly conservative. fyi.

And on edit: I had access to their vote fraud reporter. He oohhed and aahhed the Ohio videos, then wrote a story about tinfoil conspiracy. Or, at least that is how it was edited.

5. merh, they're trying to kill him and his career.
I don't know if he did wrong but this is sort of where I come down.

He decertified the bullsh#t machines. (That's when they started the attacks.)

They've made a bunch of accusations. They may be true or maybe not. But isn't that what COURTS are for?

If he was a Republican, the whole party would be circling the wagons.

Imho, this is all cr*p! Because the timing of ditching Diebold and of the attacks on him were just too convenient.

If he resigns, Ahnold appoints someone. Can we afford that? Hello?

If calling will help, I will do that. As I said, I emailed him an email of support already.

I don't know what will happen.

And we have seen this before. How do you spell "Wmd"?

Now, tell me, why would someone trying to safeguard our vote be persecuted?

Thank you, UL.

Mr. Shelly, Please do not resign or be forced out of office! I admire the fact that you stood up to decertifying the Dibold Voting machines, and can't help but notice that you are now having a smear campaign run against you. The timing is suspect to say the least. Please stay where you are and work for us to assure us the elections are fair. If the Governor is to appoint your replacement, we will not have any assurace that our elections are fair. In many instances, California sets the pace for the rest of the country. We need to keep elections honest, and having partisan equipment is not the answer. Thanks for all your good work. Regards,

12. I'm curious...
What prompted the Executive Officer of the SPB to direct the staff to conduct the Sept. '04 audit in the first place? Is this an annual thing, or was it done on a whim?

13. Chalky, I'm no expert. But I have to read the papers
every day for my job.

The SF Chronicle went after him pretty much as soon as Shelley decertified Diebold.

I'm not claiming Shelley is clean. I've no way to know that.

But doesn't it strike you as curious that the first SOS in the WHOLE COUNTRY to stand up against the machines is now being smeared out of office?

Maybe it's just me :)

14. Not only do I find that curious...
But I find this sudden scrutiny of the SOS suspicious. That's why I was asking for more info on what prompted the report.

Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 02:08 AM by sfexpat2000
They promote a smear, we try to be ethical. They smear a man who said no to rigged elections, we try to correct. Fine

I say, if the man broke the law, let him be tried.

But, let's please not hang him until he is condemned!

You can accuse anyone of anything. You can accuse me of murder.

Please, let's support this man until there is real evidence to condemn him! The corporations have every reason to tar him. Can't we be a bit more patient?

Beth

17. Its all about smear.
Thats how they have managed to silence their critics.
It sure doesn't help that some critics have left themselves open to smearing of course, but that lets the Repukes get away with smearing them ALL.

Which coroporate bootlicker will Ahnold appoint?

I can't believe we let this happen.

19. Rep. Pelosi on Kevin Shelley (SoS, CA) - "He's a person of integrity."
As I posted elsewhere, here are my notes from a question asked at the end of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA, Minority Leader)'s address today.

Q: (unintelligible) "Can you comment on the allegations against Kevin Shelley, (California Secretary of State)?"

Rep. Pelosi: "I can't comment on that, I have no comment. I have known him for many years. He is a person of integrity. I can't answer to things you have brought up, because I am not familiar {with them}..."
