HAVA provisions on "paper ballot-voting systems"
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 07:17 PM by RaulVB
Look, I've voted with HAND COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS, NO MACHINES INTERVENE ON THE PROCESS, when I refer to those I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT "a voting system that use paper ballots"

Let's clarify concepts before running legislation. If the LEGAL WINDOW in the legislation is open, IT MUST BE CLEAR.

2. I personally have alot to learn
about the different voting bills that they want to pass, but I will say we(everyone besides the neocons)need to go for the same one or we will lose out.

10. A very good place to start for all concerned about voting (all should be)
Recommended by the top experts (progressive professionals - claudiajean, etc.)

<Download the 70 page document, read it, distribute/promote it, etc.>

"Myth Breakers for Elections Officials" is a widely distributed document that was written to give elections officials the correct information about voting systems. "Myth Breakers" was delivered, by hand by local voters, to over 800 local elections officials across the country.

"Myth Breakers: Facts About Electronic Elections" is an up-to-date version of the original. We encourage voters to download a copy, print it off, bind it or put it in a folder and deliver it to your local or state elections officials.

12. Good point, but we need to educate the legislators
They'll go for the first thing that sounds good.
No offense, but I dont think many of them are too serious about this and are not giving it enough thought, so we gotta help them out.

3. I've seen 3 proposals today and all 3 are worthless
If election legislation can be written on paper then dammit I want my vote written on paper. I want my paper ballot cast by hand and counted by hand, not a (hacked) machine.

I think what we are seeing, and what will continue is "election bill of the week". March out a bunch of flawed bills and say "choose one". All are crap so far... so lets write our own petition and give it to Conyers-Dodd whoever.

4. I agree with your opinion
They seem not to understand (willingly) what a PAPER BALLOT IS.

The current "machine oriented" system made THE FRAUD POSSIBLE. TAKE THEM OFF THE EQUATION.

Simple.

I am tired of machines creeping in at every turn. Andy says we have to take "baby steps". Baby steps. In a 200-year-old "democracy".

6. Some people are talking like "career polticians"...
"Baby steps" after letting a criminal steal 2 elections in a row?

I don't understand.

7. Revolutions weren't accomplished with baby steps.
We need bold actions. We need to make DEMANDS. Not "ask politely".

11. I'm with you guys -
if we aren't talking about what we really want, there's no way we'll get it. I don't want them passing a half-baked bill and moving on, thinking they've fixed the problem.

The baby steps are valuable but they do nothing to address the issue of how the votes are counted. Most systems already have some form of paper ballot and the problems are legion.

I think above posters are right about not babystepping after three sloten elections(don't forget georgia 2002)It is revolution time and we need to tell them what we want, not have them tell us what we are going to get.
