PDA needs donations

This was an email they sent:

"I was speaking with a respected leader in the African American community yesterday as the PDA conference wound down. He made the comment that he has been around Washington, D.C., for a long, long time, and he couldn't remember there ever being a conference like this so soon after a Presidential election, a resistance conference, a conference full of people who were not defeated, not depressed, not disillusioned, who were preparing themselves to do political battle and doing so in a unified and mature way." -Long-time progressive activist Ted Glick, quoted in the Columbus Free Press following last weekend's spectacular PDA Summit meeting.

"The PDA gathering in Washington DC was a watershed event for the progressive movement in this country." -Tom Hayden

In only 6 months, PDA has:
*Brought Jesse Jackson, Medea Benjamin, Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich, John Conyers, and Barbara Lee together at our Founding Convention.
*Joined in the Ohio vote count fight that led to the historic electoral challenge by Rep. Conyers, Rep. Tubbs-Jones, and Sen. Boxer.
*Helped launch the Draft Dean for DNC Chair effort, which aided in making Governor Dean the favorite in next month's election.
*Started Progressive Democratic caucuses in dozens of states, moving the Democratic Party towards its stated values.
*Built relationships with our progressive friends on Capitol Hill.
*Taken a lead role in organizing against approving Bushs next $80 billion appropriation request for the Iraq War.

PDA has kept its promise. We've come out of the blocks committed and strong. We've kept our costs low, and our output high. We've energized our grassroots base, connected with a broad progressive network both inside and outside the Democratic Party, and successfully pressured our elected representatives. We're living up to our potential and can do even more, especially about real and effective voting reform, single payer health care, excessive Defense Department spending at the cost of a progressive domestic agenda, and about ending the immoral and counterproductive war in Iraq.

But we need your help. We need money to pay our staff, to expand caucus organizing, to take on the $80B war appropriations bill, and to push for meaningful electoral reform in the face of a recalcitrant Republican Congress. To do this, we need those who believe in PDA's work and vision to commit to providing the funds to help us build a better world. And perhaps find other friends to do the same. Donations are easily accepted on line.

Give today so that PDA can carry on this fight tomorrow. Please make a contribution of $15, $25, $50, 100, $250, $1,000 or more, up to $5,000. We promise we will not waste a nickel. We promise that no one will work harder than we will and that by working together a better America will truly be realized.

Thank you,
Tim Carpenter, PDA Executive Director
Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Co-chair PDA Policy Board, Executive Director Hip Hop Caucus
